octane change for a Doug tune - when?

My Bamachips order will be here tomorrow and I ordered the 87, 93per,93torq tune. problem is I have a little over 1/4 tank of 87 left in the car. when would it be safe to upload the 93 tune? and when should I fill the tank with 93.

I took a 100 mile trip to get the 87 out of my tank. Then I filled up with 91 and drove about 10 miles and pulled over and loaded the 91 octane tune. I was wold not to load the 91 octane tune without running the 91 octane gas.

While I appreciate that post, I was wondering how low do I take the tanks, I mean I can't obviously take it down to 1 mile to empty. can I take it down to like say,,,,,15 miles to empty then fill up with 93 or what?

I took mine down to when messages started showing in the message center. I think it took 14 gallons at fillup. I filled with 91 and then loaded the tune when I got home. I drove around for a bit - then topped the tank again with 91.

I've gotten down to 0 miles till empty, drove another 10 miles, filled up with 15.5 gallons. I think there is a little buffer on the gauge, fyi.

Or you could do what I did....run it down as low as you feel comfortable with, fill up with 93 and drive that all the way down. Then fill up again with 93 and load your tune.

Seems like a waste of money, but I got to drive my car more, so I thought it was an even trade!

I loaded my 91 tunes at around 10 miles to empty.

Too bad you didn't order the 93R in place of the 87P... I also have the 87P, but I don't see myself ever loading it (or wanting it for that matter because one you load the 91/93, there's no turnin' back!).

Does anyone know the differences between the regular 87/89/93 tunes from Brenspeed and the regular 87/89/93 tunes from Bamachips, because Im about to order my JLTII/SCT Tuner and its only a $5 difference. I know most people on here perfer Dougs tunes but has anyone had evperiance with both to compare?

I just ordered my tunes/tuner Friday, so started running my gas down to get ready for the arrival of the tuner this weekend. I started with 87, ran it down to 20 miles, put 5 gallons in, and repeated the process. That way I figured when my tuner arrives I can gas her up with 93 and immediately load the tune….

I am now running the stock tune with 93 octane gas. This morning, when downshifting, the tires actually chirped because I think the engine bogged on me. That has never happened before. Again on the way home, I gave her some gas in 1’st once I was around a corner and the engine bogged really badly until I hit about 4500 RPM. There is no doubt in my mind the car does not run right with 93 octane on a stock tune.

Now I have to decide if I want to gas her up with 87 and try again once the tuner actually gets here. Sigh…

I waited untill I got down to 5 miles before filling her up with 91. I loaded the 91tune before pulling out of the gas station. I'm on my second tank now with no problems.

Wow I thought I was the only one. I only have 91 here in Cali but between the 87p and 91 race the only difference I noticed was the 91 was more responsive from a stop. I have to be careful how much pressure I put on the gas pedal. Other than that I don't notice any groundbreaking performance difference between the two. I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that we have automatics and don't have to shift like the maual drivers do so therefore we don't get the same kind of feel they do.

its been told that the higher the octane, the bigger the power. i did feel a bigger increase in power from the 87 to the 93.
