Generalizing here, but I've read a lot of gear posts. The FRPP's don't whine, everything else does.

Not quite, but close. I've got whiney 4.10's made by Precision Gear, supposedly a high quality product. I think I've read ALL the gear threads and some have had noisy FRPP's. However the success rate does seem higher which is why my installer is swapping my gears next week. I'll be sure to report Pronto!

Welp, I made it out to Pittsburgh around 2:30 in the afternoon yesterday. I had cruise control set at 75mph @ ~2600rpm for the large majority of the trip (there were a few times where I accidently dropped into 4th and hit 100 ). I averaged 22.2 mpg, and I am completely content with that number.

As far as the whine goes, it seems to be the worst at about 65mph. I talked to the shop while I was on the road and they told me the gears set up to the thousandth of an inch(?). I guess I'll have to learn to deal with the whine. I gave my girlfriend a ride and she said she didn't notice the whine at all (that's a good thing). Then I took my dad for a ride and he told me he LIKED that noise, said that's what power should sound like.

Overall, two thumbs up for the gears, a great mod and 4.10s are NOT too much for a manual.
Chris,

Glad to hear that your install is working out well enough. I could deal with a hard-to-pinpoint whine at 65mph. Also, your MPG is impressive at that speed. I don't think I can pull that kind of mileage. More like 19-20 at those speeds.

My girlfriend can't see over the dash so her whining rivals my gears! My Dad is hard of hearing, so nothing from him.
