It has been stated the 05 Mustang has:

- Two o2 sensors.
- The o2 sensors are located in the cats and the 05 mustang has but two cats.

Is the above information correct?

People on this board have removed their cats and reprogramming of the ECU was not necessary (except perhaps to eliminate MILs). My question is this. Even if the o2 sensor was located in the cats it is probably safe to assume the o2 sensors are taking their readings before any catalytic conversion takes place?

There are 4 O2 sensor's total. Two in the exhaust manifold's (one in each side), and two in the cat's (one in each side). The two in the cat's are not vital to the cpu. The one's in the exhaust manifold's are the important one's, the cpu read's your A/F ratio's etc from those.

Gotcha. For some reason I thought the 05 only had two o2 sensors.

Thanks Vegasjay!

96+ vehicles that conform to us epa regulations have to have an oxygen sensor before and after the cats.

I haven't heard of anyone removing their cats yet.

Long tube headers would remove two of the cats. Any sort of offroad h/x pipe would remove the other two.

There are only two cat's total. Then you have two muffler's out back. There, that just about covers the complete exhaust system on the 05 GT...
