Now my car won't start after frpp cam install

Yesterday, I was loading another tune from Doug to fix the car from the rpm's dropping off in downshifting and then cutting off. When I loaded the tune and tried to crank the car it would turn over but never fully crank. I called Doug and he sent me 3rd tune but this did not fix the problem either. Doug suggested troubleshooting the problem by returning the car to stock. I did this and had the same problem. Now when I returned the car to stock the day before the car cranked fine and idled normally. He also had me try the fuel pump reset button and still nothing. I can hear what I would call a "decompression" sound when I first turn the key. Doug said that he thought that the fuel pump was working normally. After getting off the phone with doug I was able to get the car to start, but I had to give it gas on the initial crank and then the car would only idle at about 450-500 and then drop to about 100 and then bump back up to 400-500. I called the guy that installed the cams for me to come look at my car during lunch today. He works as a Ford mechanic and does a lot of aftermarket work. Are there any suggestions that you guys might have as to what might be wrong? I am starting to regret even having the d@^! things put on. My car was running fine before I started this and now it won't even crank up.

Dude, that sucks. I had a similair problem with a BBK CAI that I had installed a while back. I had Tillman Speed try and troubleshoot it from me, but they couldn't get it working either. They removed it and hooked me up with a kickass tune and it's been ripping since.

I wonder what could be wrong...I was actually thinking about having these cams put on, tuned and dyno'd at Tillman, but I don't know what to do first, cams or o/r pipe and LT's.

Use your tuner to scan for error codes. The cam position sensors or a number of other things could be the culprit. That would be a start anyway...... good luck.

Appreciate that man. Unfortunately, the DTC codes are coming up with nothing. The thing is, before I got the tune from Doug my guy had tuned the car and the problem was with the rpm's surging for 400 to 800 rpm's. I had a problem with the SCT not downloading Doug's tune and had it reflashed by SCT. I had to actually load the factory tune back to the car before i was reflashed. The car cranked and didn't have any problems. I then downloaded Doug's tune and loaded the tune to the car. The car ran like a scalded dog after that but then I got into the car cutting off when downshifting and slowing down, for example turning onto an off ramp. We then loaded the another tune and that's when the problem started, but even after that I loaded the stock tune back and the same thing was happening. I'm just concerned that I see a lot of money being spent in my future.

NOTE: I am in no way pointing fingers at Doug's tune. He has been more than willing to help me with my problem. I am only stating the order in which this happened.

do these have a harmonic balancer? I had one go bad on my old truck, and when you'd get low in the rpm's it would cut off

I haven't had any problems with my car not cranking after installing these. I did have some idle issues but it cranked everytime and I have loaded and unloaded tunes a bunch of times using my SCT programmer. I wonder what it could be?

Like Tom said, sounds like a sensor problem. Did your mechanic check all wires to make sure everything was reconnected properly?

UPDATE: My mechanic checked all the connections and hardware on the car that could be giving a problem. He found nothing. He then wnet in and looked at the parameters on the tune. He made a couple of adjustments and the car fired right up. I've been driving it all weekend and giving it hell. No problems at all.

I'm not going to come right out and say that, because I couldn't get it to crank when I loaded the stock tune back. But, the guy who came and checked the car out did not find anything mechanically wrong with the car. He is a friend of mine and would have admitted if it was something that he had missed. I'll find out exactly what adjustments he made to the tune. I'm just happy that the car is running fine.

I would check with him that he is using the right code for your PCM. I know it sounds simple but as many as he does he may have them crossed up with another.

I ordered these cams and they were backordered for 6-8 weeks. I am kind of glad I cancelled my order... sorry to hear about your problem.

Yeah that's what I thought at first. But Doug checked the tune he sent me twice and it was CDC3. I'm just glad that's its running like it should now.

I'm thinking that mine was an isolated incident. But sometimes I wonder if I was supposed to even modify this car. I bought that TruFiber GTR hood as my last mod before this ( it was a piece of crap by the way and no disrespect to anyone who has the hood, they look great). The fiberglass had air bubbles all in it. But I couldn't see them until the hood was painted and it sat out in the heat. Then I couldn't get my money back.Anyway, I digress. I was starting to feel my blood pressure sart to rise again. Hopefully, there won't be any complications my FRPP springs install tonight. I can't take much more frustration with my car. But after this, I'm done for a while.
