Not another Exhaust thread: Bassani vs Pypes
Hi everybody. I'm new here, I know. And I'm new to mustangs in general, so please bear with me. I searched and searched on every forum there is, and listened to the youtube videos, and I just need a little more help making my final decision for exhaust on an 06 GT.
This is going to be my first mod on this car, and I want to spend under $500 dollars for exhaust. I think I've narrowed down my choices to either the pypes mid-muffler cat back:
http://www.americanmuscle.com/pypes-...r-catback.html
OR
The bassani axle back:

Here's what I'm looking for out of my exhaust; I want something that sounds MEAN when I'm getting on it, but is subdued when I'm not. I live with roommates who are on a very different work schedule as I am, and I don't want to wake them up when I come home. Additionally, I take 300+ mile each way roadtrips with my girlfriend in the summer to visit family so I need something that doesn't drone obnoxiously, something that we can talk over on the freeway without shouting and what not.
I've heard good things about the bassani, but it's hard to look past the pypes which is a full catback for the price of an axleback.
Thanks everybody for your input in advance.
Also, if there's a third choice that you feed like would meet my above criteria, and is in my <$500 budget, feel free to say so.

I don't have experience with Pypes mufflers, but I just received a set of the Bassani axle back mufflers over the weekend. I previously had a set of Flowmasters and can tell you that the fit and finish of the Bassani's are worth every penny. The tips don't look cheap like a lot of lower cost mufflers.
Sorry, can't comment on the sound as I haven't heard them in person. I've only heard them on the net.
I got mine form Laurel Mountain Mustang mentioned American Muscle's price and they beat it by a fair amount. I'd give them a call and ask for Jason.

I got my borla stingers (ford racing version) bc they have oem fit and bc of the sound. They give it that signature throaty mustang sound. They're exactly what you want too - loud when you want it and pretty quiet on the highway and stuff. Now granted they are louder than stock, but they're a good medium. As far as price I tried to go through dealership and they were outrageously expensive. I ended up buying mine new in box off eBay for around 400 I think... And I believe, someone may correct me, that the ford racing ones should be cheaper than the borla ones even though they are the same muffler. Sorry to throw another option in the hat but I love my setup, it's good quality and sounds like its what you want, and had a decent price.
I just switched from Mac to Pypes MM and have been very happy. A bit of a PITA to install but very good sound. Hit up some shows/meets and listen to them in person. Dont rule out the Macs until you hear them.

How are they as far as drone? I'm really leaning towards the pypes right now because I like the idea of getting a full catback for the price of an axleback.
The Macs had some drone but I was ok with it since I had the manual I could shift around it. The pypes have very little but not quite as deep as the Macs.
