New Steeda CAI....Pinging
Just installed a Steeda CAI and elbow, Brenspeed tunes. Tank has 89 octane in it. Tune is for 87 octane. (I'm just starting, baby steps) Now I hear pinging at 2500 - 3000 rpm. Any thoughts?

Micheal,
That really should not happen running a 87 octane tune with 89 octane in the tank. I would take it easy on the loud pedal and call Brent White @ Brenspeed ASAP!!!! We can't fix your problem. BTW, welcome to the forum!

Well I'm a newb too so I'll say welcome, just a couple things to double check would be all connections to make sure they are tight(no leaks). and also make sure your maf is orientated correctly(although your problems would be much worse I think if this were the issue). I agree with 70MACH1 that shouldnt happen make sure you have the correct tune loaded, but Brent will be most helpful in getting you up and running. I had an issue with my 92 pingning and he retuned it while I ran on the 89 tune both made me smile now the 92 makes me smile unless I'm in traffic

Michael.. first of all, welcome to TMS..As for your pinging concerns ? I would definitely take Scott's advice, and contact Brent immediately, as you shouldn't experience any knock or pinging, running an 87 octane tune with higher grade 89 octane fuel..Although it may be possible, that you ended up with some really bad gas ? but more than likely, I would say that your tune just needs some minor adjusting..Anyhow, once you give Brent a call..he'll make sure that everything is straigten out for you..

The engine is warm. The tune is supposed to be Steeda specific. Called Brenspeed and have been helped by Dave. I have reloaded the 87 tune but decrease the spark by 2 degrees in the 2-4000, and 4-8000 ranges. This has eliminated the ping. I am now going to try moving the spark back up by 1 degree at each parameter to see if it remains ping free.

Just take small steps!

I've taken the spark back up to -1 degree at both 2-4,000 and 4-8000 with no ping, just purrrrrr. I guess this is where Brenspeed will finalize my 87 octane tune, and adjust my other tunes. Thanks for your input and welcome.

Since moving to TX...
I have the same problem with my 93 Octane Tune.
Chevron 93 is the only one that doesn't ping for me.
I keep a bottle of Lucas Oil octane booster in the trunk to add to the gas tank in the event of another pinging session.
