New Oil

Ok guys, i am coming close to the end of my 6 free oil changes from ford and i want to know if i have to do a full engine oil flush before i switch to another oil. I want to switch to Mobil 1 or RP full synthetic and i know ford has been using a syn-blend this whole time. If i have to how would i go about doing it? should i just take it somewhere and have them flush out the engine and i supply the oil and filter? i do not mind taking it somewhere i just want to see if it is possible to do it myself with limited supplies and tools

IMO, not necessary - just drain old oil, change filter, and refill with whatever proper grade synthetic you prefer.

what they said. Also I am sure there are oil change places that carry mobil one. Cost an arm and a leg tho. How much does ford charge for a full syn oil change?

No flush ever needed when changing brands of oil. BTW, if the dealer charges a lot more for a M1 oil change it isn't worth it. Buy some at China-mart and do it yourself.

my dealership charges a $25 for semi-syn so i am thinking about $50-$70 for full syn, so i might change it at a place here that sells Mobil 1 but i know my advanced auto parts sells the Mobil 1 5W-20 in boxes for a good price so i might aswell buy that and give it to them

If there is an Advance Auto Parts anywhere near you, they have a Buy One Get One Free special on Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic. works out to be about $2.30 a qt. Great oil, on par with Mobil1.

FWIW PP is great oil, but it is still a Group III (severely hydrocracked dino oil), if I recall correctly. Mobil 1 is supposed to be Group IV (PAO base stock, real synthetic) but there's speculation is is now Group III. Group III, IV, and V are considered synthetic under US law, but only IV and V are true synthetics.

my two cents

the p/p oil would be alright for 5k miles I would not leave it in my engine for 10k miles thats for sure. The mobil one is good for at least 10k mile before an oil change.

I run the Mobil 1 for 12k and use the Mobil 1 extended service filters, which I conservatively change at 4k intervals. Don't use the Extended Service Mobil 1 oil on these cars because it has additives that are not emission devices friendly ... otherwise it is a great oil.

Some dealers will let you bring your own oil and filter. We do that with our Volvo because otherwise its a PITA on that car). I would suspect some of the quick change places might to if they do not stock Mobil 1. Worth the price of asking if you are not equipped to do your own changes.

well the shop that is near me not only changes oil but they are also a race team ( some of there cars include a '04 Twin-turbo Mach 1 and a 93 5.8L fox body ) so they carry Redline, RP, Mobil 1, Q, Valvoline, and Penzoil, but they use regular filters and they charge alot for higher performance oils so i might just buy the oil and mobil 1 filter and take it to them
