New GT or 04 Mach 1

Hi all,

So I'm in the market for a new mustang (my 00 V6 is kicking the bucket) and I have been browsing the site for ideas. I've been thinking of an auto gt vista blue with 10" white stripes +furure mods, possibly a blower. But recently I was on Mustang Magic's site and saw they had a blue mach 1 in their "my ride" section. I've always had a thing for the mach 1s and came across an auto 04 blue with 8500miles on it for about $20000, $5000 cheaper than I would be able to get a new gt for. I really like the look of both cars so it comes down to performance, which is where you all come in. I'm aware the mach 1 autos are only four speeds but thats all I really know about them(I can only seem to find info on the manuals). What's the acceleration like, how much power/acceleration can I get from bolt ons, if I get a blower does the hood scoop become nonfunctional, will it ever be as fast as a new gt? To Mach 1 Or To GT?

The difference in the quality of the two platforms is night and day. The S197 is very solid and robust. It makes the SN95 feel like a soda can in my opinion.

Not to mention torture-chamber ergos in the SN-95's.

New car all the way

Well I traded an '04 Azure Blue Mach 1 with auto trans for my '06 GT and I have no regrets at all. Stock for stock, they are pretty evenly matched power-wise. The big differences performance-wise is the GT performs very well to standard bolt-on mods (tune, intake, etc.) while the Mach 1 has more total power potential but it will take noticeably more $$ to get it there.

There are pros and cons to both cars that I could go into LONG details about, but just do what you want- drive them, decide what your goals are, and do what's right for you. The GT was much more open to mods and customization and that's what I wanted for my ride overall- you gotta decide what you want.

You pretty much have the exact setup I want minus the spoiler and fog light position. I have driven the gt and it was a great ride, even tough the salesman wouldn't really let me open her up. Unfortunatetly its been hard to find a mach auto to test drive. If I could only drive stick...

New Mustang = much better body structure, more interior room, new car warranty + low interest rates or cash back = no brainer.

I also agree. And 20K seems pretty high priced for a 04 Mach...even with 8500 miles.

You won't go wrong with either selection and a warranty is something hard to beat. It's easy to stiffen up an "old" SN-95. My Mach is VERY stiff with the addition of a few components. I wouldn't give up my Mach for a new GT, but that doesn't mean I don't like the new GTs. I do, they are fantastic rides!

Good luck with your decision and below is a link to the specifications for the 2003-2004 Machs!

Offer invoice on an '07 Mustang right now, and be prepared to be an owner. There are LOTS of '07s still in dealer inventory. My car cost me $26,990 with 0% interest.

Yes that's a good point that I forgot to mention- $20k for a Mach is kinda high. Although they are holding their value relatively well all things considered, you could probably pick one up for around $18k, atleast around these parts (Indiana) anyway.

That's because Mustangs should only have manual transmissions

Sorry I couldn't resist.

Get an '07, I've had an SN95 and now an '06 and between the ride and ergonomics and the looks IMO it's the way to go. Those Blue Mach1's look really cool but I gotta give the '07 the nod.

This is The Sickest Blue Mach 1 I know of, and the owner is fanatical about every detail and a personal friend, but I still say S197.

God I love the Mach, but have to say S197. Now if you said 04 Cobra vs S197, There would be ALOT more to debate thats for sure.

if you must get auto then get the GT if you can get a stick then I would get the mach, the 4v has more potential imo. also the manual has a forged crank while the auto doesnt

Matt.. A couple of things to consider...

As has already been mentioned.. 07 GT's still available at dealers, you can finance with LOW or NO interest... have a warranty. The 04 Mach 1, you will have to come up with a good chunk of change to buy it at $20K... you can only finance loan value and I guarantee you it won't be close to $20K.

The S-197 is a much better all around car. Better chassis/suspension, interior, seats, 3V is no slouch and takes to mods very well. The auto is much, much better than the old 4 speed trans. And the list goes on.

You say you can't drive a standard, it only takes 15 minutes to learn, NO EXCUSE. Surely, you know someone with a standard that can take you to a large parking lot for a quick course in standardology.

I will sell you my Mineral Grey 05 GT Premiun with painted Shelby Stripes, 5-Speed, BMR suspension, Ground Control Coil-over Conversion kit with Eibach Sport Springs and FRPP Stg 3 Dampers, IMCO Extreme 55506 axlebacks, Mac CAI, Predator tune, MGW shifter.... PM me if you would be interested. It only has 7,100 miles on it.

Bobby M.

He's right. I learned to drive stick in the Mustang. First car every car I had before was an auto and when I bought the Mustang I knew it had to be manual. Where theres a will theres a way. It'll take you a week to drive manual and not even notice when your shifting. It'll just ebcome second nature fast.

Our normal stock of ~65 GT's are down to 4 07's total left(7 V6's vert/coupe), we have more 08's in stock already. But you should still be able to get a deal regardless no worries...
