Thumbs up New Flowmaster Axle-Back Released

New Axle-Back System available for the 05-09 Mustang GT from Flowmaster. Part# 817460.

http://dagostinoracing.com/index.php...ducts_id=16406

Since the early 1980’s when Ford released the now famous 5.0L HO engine, Flowmaster- Equipped Mustangs have become the signature sound of the modern muscle car era. Flowmaster’s new axle-back system for the latest generation of 05-08 Mustang’s delivers improved performance, looks and a sound reminiscent of those early 5.0L cars. Featuring Classic square cased 40 Series® mufflers, the kit follows the factory exhaust routing, utilizes the factory hanger mounting points and includes all necessary mounting hardware for an easy and perfect fitment. Designed for the serious enthusiast who really wants to hear their pony breathe, these mufflers produce a deep and aggressive exterior tone on the throttle, along with a considerable amount of interior sound. For those looking for performance, but with a tamer sound, Flowmaster also offers a quieter alternative (part# 17410).

interesting, wonder how it sounds

I loved my flowmasters, they sounded great! But they just weren't loud enough.

I love my AT's, I'd like to hear these though. A side by side comparison would be cool.

I wonder if they fixed the 'rattle'? ..that's the only thing that stopped me from going with Flows on the 08. Everyother car or truck (6 of them so far) I've ever upgraded the exhaust on has been with Flowmaters.

I bought a set of the flowmaster ATs last year and have had no rattle issues...I think the early pairs are the only ones that were doing that.

I have gotten the same question about the "rattle" from another customer. On the original Axle-Backs I had a bad batch where their was a problem with the muffler. I have to admit Flowmaster stepped up to the plate and replaced the defective units free of charge at the nearest Flowmaster Dealer. This only occurred on a couple of my customers cars and this was well over a year ago. Since then I have sold a ton of Flows and have not heard of a problem.

I have a set of Corsas on mine right now with BBK Shorty Headers and a Bassani X-Pipe w/Hi-Flow Cats.

Sounds incredible at low RPMs but is just too much when you open it up for me as a daily driver and just not quite the sound i want.

With stock exhaust it sounds great at all RPMS but when you open up the flow like I did it just doesn't suit my tastes. Im looking for a low deep rumble at low RPMs and a nice smooth screaming at WOT that is louder than stock (but not too loud). I'm looking at either these new Flows or Magnas. Then I will be selling the Corsas at about $400 or $450 if I have to pay shipping (not bad for only being 3 weeks old).

Hopefully someone will get some vids up and review these badboys and compare them to already existing Flows. If not I may have to pull the trigger on them after Christmas.

if anyone is going to get new flowmaster mufflers, i suggest going with the super 44 mufflers. they are a universal muffler, but its worth getting them custom fitted to your car. i used to have them and they rocked, but i love my steeda gt mufflers aka borla much deeper tone.

$400 is a bit pricey. I had a set of the original AT's and had 3 sets go bad. I then had a Flowmaster dealer install a set of 40 series for under $300. Probably identical sound as these new ones. Sounds a lot better than the AT's though. Much deeper.

Is it made from T409 or T304 stainless steel?

409, it's on the Flowmaster site.
The curiosity is making me itch to get them, no clips yet?

I have never known Flowmaster to make any of their mufflers out of 409 or 304 SS. Are they referring to the tips or the muffler case? The photograph shows the muffler case to be made out of some painted metal, similar to the aluminized steel that Edelbrock used for their muffler which had 304SS tips.

+1 on just the tips being SS. I doubt anyone is going to add paint or powder to a 304SS surface. These look just like the 55506 Cherry Bomb mufflers, with painted alumanized bodies and polished rolled tips. I think this is the Flow offering to compete. Unfortunately I just got a set of Cherry Bombs, so if the Flows are better, don't tell me.

This is from the official Flowmaster web page.

"Flowmaster Announces New Axle-back
American Thunder® Classic System for 2005 - 2009 Ford Mustang
If you're performance fan Zach Tibbett, you want your black 2006 Ford Mustang GT to sound great and perform even better. While Zach's Mustang already had an enhanced exhaust system, he wanted a more aggressive system — after all not every Ford fan can afford a new $50,000 Shelby GT500.
After considerable research, Zach turned to Flowmaster and the new '05-'09 Ford Mustang American Thunder Classic System (Axle Back, PN 817460). Zach's comments: "I love the mufflers! The sound is awesome. It's loud, but not overbearing — at least to me. It really helped the sound of the Comp Cams Thumpr cam. Now the sound has a lot more body, its a lot throatier."
According to Lee Thompson of Flowmaster's R&D team, Flowmaster created this new axle back system featuring the 4-inch x 10.5-inch classic square case 40 series mufflers. The assembly includes the same 4-inch rolled edge stainless tips and 2.5-inch inlet pipe. The muffler assemblies are all 409 stainless with the exception of the tips that are 304 stainless. This is a true bolt-on system, and no cutting or welding is required for installation. Targeted at "enthusiast" customers, the mufflers provide an aggressive exterior sound level, and significant interior resonance similar to that of our 86-93 Mustang American Thunder systems.
Find a Flowmaster Authorized Dealer near you by visiting our Dealer Locator and fit your '05-'09 Mustang with our PN 817460. The sound of power — Flowmaster American Thunder Classic System."
