"409 Stainless Steels contain a
certain number of surface inclusions
which are the normal result of titanium
stabilization additions to improve the
steel. Occasionally, rusting may occur
at these inclusion sites and lead to problems
with cosmetic appearance. As a
result, these steels are not suggested
for applications where surface appearance
is a factor." -aksteel.com

This explains the surface coating on the mufflers. Even though they are stainless, the 409 isn't "pretty" so they made them black, which is my preference.

Looks like these will be good. Guess we'll have to see who posts a vid first?

T409SS is also stronger than T304SS. There's more titanium content in the T409 as well as more ferrous metals, which gives it the better strength favored by the OEMs.

If these new Flowmasters are indeed made of 409SS, this is almost a FIRST for Flowmaster. Their entire exhaust lineup was predominantly aluminized steel. Perhaps customers are finally realizing that aluminized steel has no place on modern exhaust systems.

Although T409SS, is stronger than T304SS. If I'm not mistaken, doesn't T409SS eventually rust through

After 7-8 hard salty winters, T409SS can rust through.

Does anyone know if the boxes are painted or are they sprayed with some other type of coating?

How bad is the drone? The regular A/T's aren't that bad, but these seem to be much worse...

Flows never sounded as good as they do on the sn95 cars the s197's with the muffler right out back doesnt allow for that hollow monster sound that the mid muffler setup used to produce.
