New Dyno numbers..........

Well, I finally made it to Brenspeed today for a custom dyno tuning session. Thanks to Brent's expert tuning, we ended up at 303h / 318t at the wheels, and a flat A/F of 12.8. I'm really pleased with the numbers and the car is running very, very well.

So, for a brief recap here is my history of mods and the dyno results at the time:

1) Stock: 264h / 285t

2) JLT2 cai, "canned" tune, and Bassani mufflers: 288h / 306t

3) JLT2 cai, custom tune, Pypes offroad H, Corsa mufflers: 296t / 316t

4) JLT2 cai, custom tune, Pypes offroad H, Corsa mufflers, Steeda underdrive pullies, Ford Racing CMRC delete plates, and Ford Racing 4.10 gears: 303h / 318t. I mentioned the gears on this last dyno run because most people will tell you that going to a lower gear will affect your dyno numbers by 4 to 8 horse.

Now, just gotta decide what's next...........long tube headers? Nitrous kit?? Or just start saving for a blower????

Wondered how it went, I wanted to come up and watch. But, I was out on vacation for 2 days last week. Put me behind at work. Wonder if the 7 came from the pullies or the CMRC Deletes. I am thinking the Comp Cams and Throttle Body Brent is selling may be my winter project.

awesome Tom!!! We were pace for pace for a while but now you are walking away! I really think I am going to have to add the pulleys soon.

Great numbers.

Awesome man! I ordered my Xcal2 from him last week! I hope i get it soon! I think I'll have to schedule a tuning session once I get myself moved to South Bend next month!

Did you have him install any of those parts, or did you take the car to him tune-ready? How long did it take to do the tuning? What did you start with that day before the 303hp run?

OK man, i'll stop asking questions now.

The cams are awesome- they made huge power on Brent's car. And the funny thing is, the peak torque didn't increase but if you look at the torque curve over 5000 rpm, torque is up like 20 ft/lbs thru 6500 rpm. So basically, where the torque starts to drop with the stock cams, the new cams just keep it coming! It would make a great winter project, for sure.

Does Brent post here? I am wondering if those cams make the idle sound any less smooth. That'd be great.

I thought about you yesterday when I saw your car's picture hanging in the showroom....... maybe I'm jealous ! Just kiddin' .

I would think counting the little difference the gears make on peak power reading, I probably gained around 12 horse by adding the pullies and CMRC delete plates. So IMO, the pullies are a "no brainer" and I bought the delete plates from Ford Racing for like $95 delivered- for that price, you may as well do them too.

Don't worry about being pace for pace- you'll catch up soon 'cause I'm about done! (read: holiday season coming too soon)

I installed the parts myself. The first dyno run was like 298 h if I remember right. So between that and Brent working his magic, we got up to the 303/318 mark. I was there for 2 hours total, some of which was spent removing my shaker setup (needs to come off for dyno testing) and talking about the next round of mods............

He used to post but pretty much stopped. The cams sound like stock- there isn't much of a noticeable difference in sound until you get over 5000 rpm- Brent said at that engine speed it sounds like a totally different motor. But idle is pretty normal.

For you local guys, don't forget that tomorrow Wednesday 10/4 is the open drag day at Muncie, Indiana strip. Brent's closin' down the shop for the day and is taking like 4 cars to run- I plan on going down the strip for my first time tomorrow! Butterflies already......!

Me too. Eleanor Dreaming beat both of us to it; seems like a logical choice.

I cut and pasted this from the email I got:

Tom

Everyone,

Drag Day VI (that is Roman Numeral 6) is coming up next week Wednesday. For
those who are calendrically challenged, that is October 4th. We are charging
the same cost as last spring. That is $40 dollars for the day. We really need
people this time. Please make sure to invite your buddies and we need to get
around 40 vehicles there. Please let me know if you are coming. Below is the
typical rules we need to follow.

1. Since we have an overhead cost of renting the track, we need
commitments. Please contact me with your name, type of car, and whether your
vehicle will run faster than Kamron Wright' full size van did last spring. (If
not, we may have to tie a couple of squirrels in the front to help you get down
the track.)

2. All people will be responsible for bringing their own meals and drinks.
Please bring coolers to keep it cold and any personal comfort items like lawn
chairs. No alcohol is allowed at this event.

3. Friends and spectators get in free.

4. There is high octane leaded race gas available at the track.

5. Cars under 14 seconds in the quarter must have the drivers wearing
helmets. If you do not know your cars capability, you might bring a helmet.
I'm sure someone would be willing to loan a helmet in a pinch.

6. All drivers must wear long pants when driving. You can wear shorts
otherwise.

7. A will be available for hauling a vehicle that "bites the dust" having
fun.

8. The first 60 ft of track will have been sprayed for traction.

9.The website for directions to the track is the following:
www.munciedrag.com

The track will be operational at 10AM. The gates will open between 9 and
9:30 AM for those who would like to get there early to set up. We will have a
quick group meeting to go over the day's events and schedules at 9:45 AM at the
starting tower. Please pay balance of fee at entry gate if applicable. We will
have someone there to check you in and collect the food until race time. If you
should arrive late, please contact Bruce Ley or Scott Coonrod upon arriving to
get checked in.
