Need Technical Assistance

OK, here is the deal. AND I am not seeing much help from either JLT or SCT, so I am turning to my mustang breathern.

I installed the JLT CAI on my 05 Mustang GT. Uploaded the tune from my xcal2. I started with the 87 tune to see what I would gain. I am experiencing pinging when I shift from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd @ around 3500 rpm. I first thought I got a hold of some bad gas (insert joke) and tried a couple different gas stations with no change in the result. I then bumped it up to 93 tune and get the same problem.

JLT tells me to contact SCT, since they were the ones who built the tunes they supply. SCT replied once to my post on their forum, but have not heard a response to my response.

Can anyone make any suggestions and help me out with this? I'm fairly certain the car is running lean and that is my problem.

The way I see it you have 3 options:
  1. Return it to stock - pinging is never good in an engine.
  2. Using your Xcal2 retard the timing advancement a bit thru the timing ranges. Don't add fuel just retard the timing.
  3. Get it custom tuned or contact a custom tuner like Doug at Bama Chips, CR a Tillman Speed and Brenspeed. The custom tunes that they or a good local shop do much more than the canned tune and you will get much better cutomer service than what you are getting.

Thanks for the plug. Definetly hit myself or Doug up for a custom tune. It's always possible you got some bad gas amidst all of the controversy, but if you still have problems even on the 93 map, it's the tune.

Feel free to give me a call. Thank you sir!
