light is on? How can the UD pullies cause a the check engine light to trip? Doesn't make sense to me - aren't these just a "physical" change, i.e., no effect on a/f ratio?

The car runs fine (and feels like it revs even quicker) - anyone else have the check engine light come on after the pully install?

I've had the JLT/SCT combo on for over a week with no issues - did have to remove it to access the pullies - but everything is back and I have double checked it is all in order....

thanks - I appreciate any feedback....

PS - any way to read the code that tripped the check engine light - w/o going into the dealer? IIRC my '00GT had a way to scroll through the digital odometer and it would display code numbers that you could look up.....or can I purchase a reasonably priced tool that would plug into the harness and allow me to read the code and/or reset the check engine light?

Bradley... this may just be the engine light coming on from a previous mod that you did. When I did certain things to the car, the check engine light would come on sometimes a couple days later. The pulleys shouldn't make your check engine light come on. It didn't for mine. And the guy at MMR where I got the pulleys reassured me by telling me that you will not have to tweak the computer at all after installing pulleys. So, it definitely shouldn't make the light come on. Unless, something else was affected during the install. Maybe something was installed back on wrong or something like that. If you are sure everything is ok with that, then it may just be because of a previous mod?

Ian - thanks for the quick response....I'm going to double check everything and see if the light goes out after a few ignition cycles......did yours eventally go out or did you have to take it into the dealer and have it reset?

thx

I was going to install the Magnaflow X-pipe with high flow cats last night and decided to wait - boy am I glad I did that - it would be even harder to try and find the cause with multiple mods installed at once!

I had to re-install my SCT tune after I had mine apart for some welding that was done on my car. You might want to try that.

Ron - good idea - if it doesn't shut off after 3 ignition cycles - then I'll try that!

thx - b

My check engine light went off after I reflashed my computer. And I just gutted my cats a week ago and the check engine light came on a couple days later. I'll hopefully get my PC cable in soon and be able to write a new program with the SCT software and reflash again. Reflashing the computer even just with the same tune would be a good idea for you though if it doesn't go off after a few cycles. That might fix it.

Did you torque them down properly (especially the crank bolt)? If not, it can trip a CEL. Might be worth backing the bolt out and then retorquing to the recommended specs.

Not sure if you meant to quote me, but I had no problem with my pulleys... no check engine light came on. But that's another idea to make sure the bolt is torqued down just right.

Import - I did use the newer Ford method to torque down the crank bolt and went back and double checked it after driving a bit - all was fine - curious - how would an improperly torqued crank bolt trip a CEL? (of course if the pully came flying off I can see that)......

Brad, If I remember right, DozersPony had this same problem back in February and received some info about torqueing the pulley and timing?
I believe from Steeda. Not sure.

Paul - thanks - I'll check with Dan and see - I'm calling Steeda as well to see what they have to say on the subject.

There is a crank position sensor that apparently is very sensitive--the slightest amount of "wobble" will cause it to throw a CEL. I can't remember where I saw this posted, or who posted it, but a call to Steeda should get an answer for you. Good luck. B)

Was the issue resolved? did you just get the sct or sct2? sct2 will read and clear the codes for you.

I was here looking for actual install help/tips. I just ordered them myself.

What's the newer Ford way of tightening down the crank bolt?

Doesn't your SCT come also as a code reader?

Good questions? I read somewhere that you need to lube the washer for the bolts to keep the torque correct. Also, do you need to reinstall the tune when you do any real work to the car?

I have heard over and over again that steeda's directions are good and straight forward.

Did anyone find that post from back when.
