Thumbs up

I am at a dilema?

I was all set to do a set of gauges for my car. Speed of sound with the raptor lite. Then I just happen to price a set of 4.10's for my car (see my sig. for current mods done). A place in Raleigh NC (fast lane motorsports) quoted me a price of 479.00 installed out the door for Ford Racing gears, consumables,re tuning speedo using my xcal 2, everything.

My problem is that is about what the gauges would have cost me. I cannot do both, but need options as to which direction to go?

If I go with the gears, should I upgrade the diff cover to a better one (kind of like the set up at BMR) for more support. The car is a weekend warrior so gas milage is not a issue.

The gauges would give the inside a needed lift to match the outside.

I could go on and on, but your opinions please.

I dont know about upgrading the dif cover anymore till I really start uping the power levels. Those 8.8" rears are tough.

I say do the go fast stuff first over mostly cosmetic stuff like gauges.

Yea, I love go faster stuff.

I kinda wanted to enter some local car shows and the gauges would be more eye candy (even useful eye candy).

As for gears, it is only a talking point at a show.

BTW can I sell my 3.55's to a friendwho has a 93 LX with a 5.0?

I am pushing 4k now. My show is the stripes, front and rear spoiler and the wheels. I would not have done the wheels if the opportunity would not have presented itself when it did. (wife had a weak moment and approved it).

All show and no go is really a ricer way of life.

I am trying to keep a balanced package..... not a sleeper mode. I am wanting to show it some in local events so that is why the interest in gauges and possible side scoops.

you won't be dissapointed with 4.10 gears, they make the car so much more fun to drive (unless you like drivng 100+), even if you aren't racing. I have 4.10's in mine, and I don't race. Ford should ship these cars with 4.10s, I'll bet you their sales after test-drives with 4.10's installed would go up quite a bit!

thats cheap for the gears, and they are the best bang for the buck performance mod. Do the gears, your car already looks hot. My car looks totally sleeper, but is loud as $%&# and goes. I need to do some appearence mods. But the power is just so nice.

Depends on what you mean by "show." I have always argued that there are two acceptable schools of modification. Mods that make a car look good (rims, paint, interior dressing etc) and mods that make a car go fast. IMO, guys venture into riceboy territory when they get confused and start mixing the two schools and adding mods that make their cars "look" fast (fake scoops, batwings, etc).

As for your choice, other's will notice (and probably appreciate) the gauges, but YOU will notice (and definitely) appreciate 4.10's

No not the rice boy image at all. Gauges add to the performance issue and look good also. Most of my car is performance orientated, no Japanese juice in mine(nothing against those who do, but not for me).

No fake hood scoops or this or that. No spinner rims or 24 " tires, or neon lights, no 5 gillion watt stereo, no fart can mufflers, etc.

I am just at a cross road as to where to spend the 500.00. gauges or gears. I have always decided on performance once I got my basic visual image of my car accomplished. Shoot I had boxes of stuff in the garage waiting on my car to come in.

Once I max out on performance issues (short of a S/C), I may tweek it here and there. Dress up the engine with some chrome and intake cover.

I know what you are referring to and I am against it. That is why I am not sure of the CDC gauge pod or the SOS pod. The stock a pillar pods are to me a little ricey.

No doubt man. Your car looks good and goes fast, which is what ya want

And the gauges are functional, so they definitely wouldn't count as a "ricer" mod. That said, since you already have the look you want, I think you'd really get the most out of the gear swap. You'll accelerate faster, have a higher top speed (assuming you've already flashed the governor away), and the gas mileage penalty will not be that bad.

FYI, I also did cosmetic/audio upgrades first, and am now migrating over to performance mods (JLTII and Xcal just ordered, gears/pullies coming soon). I'm glad my time and funds are both limited, otherwise this mod business could get a little crazy...

I'm at around $5500 in mods and I have always tried to back up the visual with the performance.

Gauge pods vs 4:10 gears? 4:10 gears in a heartbeat!
