Need to confirm something about a possible future mod.

I know I haven't been posting for quite awhile, but anyway, its been almost a year since the last mods my parents put on the GT/CS, and we have been thinking of getting headers(ARH 1 5/8" LT's w/ Catted H) soon. Besides a tune to correct the A/F ratio after the install of the headers, what else will be needed to make sure the car does not have a check engine light or error code and passes emissions?

Where are you located, and what is the emissions testing procedure? In California, from my understanding, you get a visual inspection, and if the cats are deleted or relocated from the stock position, you fail automatically. In New York, they poll the sensors, and if any respond as being turned off (in the tune) or not ready, you fail. Other states simply scan the OBD-II port looking for error codes. Yet other states (even areas within the states) have no testing whatsoever...

ASSuming that the TX inspection is similar to the VA inspection, then it sounds like you're going to get an OBD-II scan (use MIL eliminators on the rear O2 sensor harness, and that should be no problem), and possibly a tailpipe test on the rollers. That MAY be an issue, but if you work with your tuner, and tell them that you need to be able to pass TX emissions, they may burn you a tune that is set up for emissions testing. Just make sure you "bed in" the tune for 100 miles prior to getting it tested.

The usual disclaimers apply.
