+1,
I am planning to do my oil change myself too because of TacoBill's instructions
Already bought the oil and the filter (Mobil 1), will do an oil change as soon as my stang is out of hibernation (may be in 2-3 weeks)

Also Nat notices the passenger window isnot wrking right so it nolonger would do thedop down ? I was driving so I said to look for my Bible in the glove box and he looks it up and follows the instrucions to recalibrate it. It works 100 % now I was impressed totally,
Henry when you change your oil make sure you have a grip wrench , as the original is on there pretty hard, I could not find mine so I HAD TO DO IT THE HARD WAY. screw driver hammer. don't laugh.

Actually, this is the second oil change on my car, the dealer did the first one, I wasn't sure how to do it myself until I red TacoBill's instructions, so I am hoping that the filter is not too tight anymore (I heard they come tight from the plant), but anyway, thanks for the advise, I will make sure I have all the tools handy before I start.

My filter was put on by a 800 pound gorilla! I thought the filter was stripped as I was unscrewing it. Finally came off w/o issue though.

TacoBill: Nice write up once again!

Cool Good job Dad!

So very great to see you are including your young son in the Mustang magic!! Hats off to Mr. Taco Bill too, for having his own son so involved with all the phases of his Mustang hobby. I honor him and also remember when I did this with our young son Sammy, when he was about 10 years old. Sam is now 30 and is building high powered turbo Mustang drag cars down in Florida. Its a very great thing you do here Dads! I am so very glad now that I took all that extra man time with my young Sam in the shop, so very long ago. We are now very close (Father&Son) and get to share all this wonderful Mustang Madness together!! CalStang

Great job Ed!

Not only did you save a few bucks by not taking it to the Dealer, but you now have the satisfaction and peace of mind that it was done correctly and with the right kind of oil. Working side by side with your son was the real payoff though.

Use a piece of aluminum foil over the parts directly below the oil filter and you will avoid oil running over the parts - make sure you create a little funnel to guide the oil towards the pan you are draining the oil into. The seond time you do it you will get it right.

As a side note, I did 2 things different this time around.

1. I used a gallon zip-lock bag to catch the oil as I unscrewed the oil filter, which by the way worked great!

2. I pre-filled the new oil filter around 1/2 way prior to installing it.

Good job and keep up the good work! Oil changes aren't rocket science so there's no need to have a shop do it unless you don't have the facilities for this project.

Amen to that. One of the simpler tasks you can still perform on your vehicle and one you should do just to keep up with what's going on underneath the car.

Good idea on the zip lock, never thought of that.
This is definitely one of the easiest cars to change oil on. Both the drain pan and filter are extremely easy to get to. My 99 Cougar was a PITA

These cars are much easier than others to change oil. My 3.0 Ranger had the filter right above the starter, I saw at least one instance of melting the battery cables with the filter on that engine. It didn't happen to me because I was careful, but I did see it happen in the lube lane of the dealer I worked at several years ago.
