On to my 3rd Shaker 500
I know a lot of people have been having problems with their shaker 500 however mine has been replaced 2 times and I still have the same problem with it spitting out CDs as "bad disk" totally at random. It doesn't happen often enough for me to have them pull it out of my dash a 3rd time. I will probably replace it with an aftermarket one down the road anyway. Just can't believe they can't get this right. :bang:
At this point, I'm considering aftermarket as well. That's the reason I didn't get the 1000. I think though that there are two versions of the 500... A and B. Did you make sure that they replaced it with the opposite of what you had in there? Either way though, thanks for posting this. Because now I'll think twice before bringing my car in to have the 500 fixed.
I am tired of the problem also. Too bad FORD can't get this right. I will eventually put a different head unit in but for now I want to spend my money on other mods. My car goes in again on Monday for the last attempt to fix the headunit issue.
I dunno if there really is an A and B or if that is just a rumor going around. Really I think they just keep replacing the headunit hoping to get a laser that is not overly sensitive or whatever the problem is. Anyway, definatly not going with 1000 was the way to go. If I remember back to last year that upgrade cost $1200 or so. You can get some great aftermarket audio equipment for that price. That is why I didn't bother with it.
Some guys have had these things replaced FOUR times and they are still crap. I had mine replaced once, and it doesnt sound as good as the original one. I think Im gonna wait till the warrantee is almost up and get it replaced then. They HAVE to have this fingered out in three freakin years!
I am one of the ones that went through 4 of the skipper1000 units. Finally yanked it out and threw it on the shelf and put in a Kenwood DDX7015. Probably one of the best things I have done in a while. All the factory amps and speakers work. The only thing that I have an issue with ( which is certainly not a big deal ) is that I cannot get it to dim with the dash lights. Hey, I can live with that. And if I get unlazy enough I can probably figure that out too.
