Motor Mounts?

Does anyone know if they make adjustable motor mounts for 05+ mustangs?

I'd like to be able to drop the engine a little to allow a strut tower brace to clear a supercharger.

I believe JDM has motor mounts that are slightly lower but no nobody makes an "adjustable" motor mount.

+1 They are 1/2 inch lower than the standard Prothanes.

Or do what I did, buy the standard Prothanes and cut them yourself- I cut about 3/8" off mine.

How did you cut them square? I've been toying with the same idea--my carbide tipped mitre saw works fine on aluminum, but I want to make sure I get a square cut and they are sort of odd shaped.

I used a compass and traced a line around them that I used as a guide. Then, quite frankly, I cut them one at a time using a bench vise and a (GASP!) Sawzall with a fine tooth blade. Sounds hillbilly (maybe it is?) but it worked fine and they have been on the car for several months including many WOT adventures, and WOT clutch dumps on 325/45 drag radials while pulling the driver's front tire off the ground and running 11.7s.

You can have a machine shop chuck the large end in a lathe and just machine them down.

I get the picture now. The JDM mounts are prothane's that they've trimmed down...JDM wants $185 and indicated a 3/4" drop. I'll by the Prothane's and get a machine shop buddy to trim them down for me.

Thanks everyone for your advice

Below is a comparison between the "lowered" JDM version and regular Prothane mounts. I just saw a set on Ebay for $119.95 + 20.05 for shipping.

Ebay - P mounts

Find a local machine shop and have them milled down if need be.

You'd think that dropping everything 1/2" or so would result in all kind of alignment issues for exhaust, etc...

Any need to mill them down on just a straight swap from stock to prothane with no known clearance issues?

Thanks for the info! I may go that route if I can't clamp then down square in my chop saw.

From what I've gathered, the Prothanes raise the engine about 1/4" compared to stock. This is probably because they are the same height dimension as the stock mounts, but the stock mounts compress down a little when the engine sits on them.

I think I'll try and take an exact measurement before removing the stock mounts, then trim the Prothanes to match.

I can tell you that the stock Prothanes will raise the engine about 1/4 inch. And if you want the same height as the stockers you would need to trim that 1/4 inch off of them. I already measured an "unloaded" stock engine mount and it checks the same as the Prothanes but when the engine weight is on the stockers they must squish down that 1/4 inch

I'm considering the Prothanes also. Though, for a daily driver I'm wondering if it is worth it or not.
I had figured that when I do the LT's that I'll do the mounts as well.

Hey Mark,
For a daily driver with no longtubes I would say "NO" but if you go with longtubes you will them need to control engine movment so it doesn't rub the steering shaft or anything else. That is why I did them.

Thanks Scott. I didn't think about the possibility of clearance issues. That settles it!

Did you need a special blade to get a clean cut Tom? I already had the prothanes and looks like I'm gonna need to do some shaving now that I've been blown...

Does lowering the engine require re-adjusting the rear end pinion angle?

No... it will have very little if any effect on the pinion angle.

Thanks Scott.

Tom, did you lower your engine while you still had your Paxton intercooler? If so, did the lower height make a difference in clearance with the pipes?
