It's just that torque management is more of an issue for the auto than the stick.

The question is, will he do it for us poor, misinformed-at-the time people who bought tuners from somebody else? and at what cost?

Hey Don,
How easy is it to upload the SCT X2 with the .xtr file that Doug sent you? I have the disk that Doug sent me and I want to upload the 93 performance tune to the SCT X2. (currently have 87 perf, 89 perf, & 93 torque).
Do I just open the ExtremeTune program, hook up the SCT X2 with the USB cable, select the slot (1, 2, or 3) where I want to upload to and then hit program Xcal? How do you know which com port to use (or just go with com1)?
Sorry if this is a little off topic but I did a search and couldn't find how to do this. Certainly something I don't want to mess up.
thanks,
Paul

It pretty much works like you describe. Only problem I had was I couldn't get the X2 to talk to my laptop at all. But it works fine with my desktop. Never did solve that riddle.

I think the main issue is the X-Cal2 is not really a USB device... it's actually a serial device, so you need to make sure the serial-->USB driver is loaded and working... took me a couple of times to get the drivers to load correctly on my laptop...

How much does it cost to get a new tune from the various tuners?

Good luck with your decision. Good tuners out there but definitely give Doug an email with any questions that you have. I'm glad I did and can't believe I waited this long to get a tune even though it's only been about 5 months that I had my car.
Paul is correct... it's best to check with the tuner for an exact quote. But, if you don't already have an XCal2, figure on around $400 or so for the X2 and tunes. And Doug's "after sale service" is priceless!!
I've heard and read alot about the benefits of a tune, but is there any downside at all? Other than cost. The initial $ cost is fairly insignificant in the big scheme of things. Im just wondering if there is any negative aspect. Thanks.

I sent my Xcal to Doug (got my cai from JLT). He loaded the torque tune.....really added some stuff on the low end. Great for city driving.
Took her for a 800 mile trip. I did loose a little on the upper end performance WOT at 70+....but gas milage was surprising. Under 70 mph cruise ( 25~26 mpg) 80mph cruise was still a decent 23+mpg.
surprised on my part to upgrade your HP by almost 10% and still get factory numbers on MPG

Are you guys tuning for premium, midgrade or regular? In many stations, our midgrade (89 Octane) and regular are the same price, but the 91 octane is a 15-20 cent premium charge. I would like an 89 or regular tune, but to clean up the WOT shifts.
My winter driver is a 2003 Chevy Avalanche, and it drives night and day difference with the Tow Haul mode on. Tow Haul lets it wind out a little more (about an extra 1500 RPM), more aggressive throttle response and firmer shifts (like an old fashioned a shift kit). The only difference is the shifts are not throttle dependent. It holds the lower gear a lot longer before it up-shifts, even at part throttle. I don't think I would like that every day in my Stang.

I have 3 tunes now. JLT gave me a 89 and a 93 tune....Bama gave me a 93 torque tune. I dont drive my stang every day....but even on the trip, I still paid 20 cent a gallon extra for 93. That came to about a 8 dollars extra over all. not that big of a deal since I paid out 80 bucks for fuel.
Maybe driving it every day it would add up.....BTW our gas jumped up 15 cents over night down here...anyone else noticed it else where?
