Heres what I did. The center emblem from the ford piece on mine was stuck like chuck I couldn't get it loose. SO I ended up using a dremel to remove the entire center section from the back and did a custom job here 68CJ center gas cap insert from Mustangs Unl.

Now thats What I'm talkinbout! Looks like nice work I need to as though, how did you keep from having the edge look all cut up? Were you able to maintain the stubs for alignment Please provide any tips you have on this.

I had to be really careful with the dremel. I used a grinding wheel and just removed a little material at a time until the old center just fell out. Then I massaged it very slowly until I had the contour correct to fit the new centerpiece that I ordered. The new one was made from some sort of metal very thin so I used JB Weld around the edge to adhere it from the back (worked very well) and then I backfilled the void area (where the alignment nubs are) with a hot glue gun. Got the surface flat and used the industrial strength double sided tape (3M) to re adhere it. Also I got a take off emblem from a local guy for cheep just incase. I didn't take pictures but really you just have to be careful take your time and use our imagination.

A bit off topic, but has anyone tried to retrofit an actual gas cap from a gen 1? Or even checked the size to see if it would be possible? I think something like this would be awesome.

I've got one that is silver in the center of mine. It's a very nice Shelby GT with Cobra. This is a rough draft. The actual one is very crisp and silver. I just sprayed the cap with windex, pasted this one on and smoothed down with all the air bubbles out. Looks factory.
Just my thoughts .......

Thats cool Glenn! Did you have the graphic custome done or did you order from somewhere? I looked all over the place before I did what I did to mine and couldn't find anything like that.
