Heres what I did. The center emblem from the ford piece on mine was stuck like chuck I couldn't get it loose. SO I ended up using a dremel to remove the entire center section from the back and did a custom job here 68CJ center gas cap insert from Mustangs Unl.

I had to be really careful with the dremel. I used a grinding wheel and just removed a little material at a time until the old center just fell out. Then I massaged it very slowly until I had the contour correct to fit the new centerpiece that I ordered. The new one was made from some sort of metal very thin so I used JB Weld around the edge to adhere it from the back (worked very well) and then I backfilled the void area (where the alignment nubs are) with a hot glue gun. Got the surface flat and used the industrial strength double sided tape (3M) to re adhere it. Also I got a take off emblem from a local guy for cheep just incase. I didn't take pictures but really you just have to be careful take your time and use our imagination.

A bit off topic, but has anyone tried to retrofit an actual gas cap from a gen 1? Or even checked the size to see if it would be possible? I think something like this would be awesome.

Just my thoughts .......

Thats cool Glenn! Did you have the graphic custome done or did you order from somewhere? I looked all over the place before I did what I did to mine and couldn't find anything like that.

Nice. That is what I want. No emblem or fake gas cap thingy.

Is the keyhole filled or photoshopped?

I was thinking of removing the fake gas cap thingy on my black GT. Then doing either 10" or 12" silver or gold stripes.
