Here's the deal. I am desperatly looking for exhaust. I'm back and forth between the JBA system or Magnaflows. I have a Magnaflow dealer right by me.

1. Do I buy my exhaust online or do I by the set there?

2. Should I go with the mustang specific kit, or just any kit?

3. How much will it cost me for each?

Thanks for any input. I personally like the sound of the JBA exhaust better, but should I go through a JBA dealer (if they exsist) or just buy the set online and have them installed elsewhere?

Nick, you probably are not gettin any responses because most of your questions are ones that people just don't have the answers to.

1. Not really sure. You' have to research prices of exhaust on-line and then add up shipping... then price out exhaust at a shop and add tax... and then figure out the best deal.If you have a Magnaflow dealer by you (and you don't plan to install yur exhaust yourself) it might be better to order it from them because they might give you a bit of a deal if you have them install it.

2. I would definitely go with a Mustang specific kit. There are so many out there right now, why wouldn't you? Trying to get a generic kit and make it fit is pointless and troublesome. You might save a few bucks, but you won't get the fit/finish you want.

3. I would help you out and research prices for you, but I just don't have the time. Just look on some sites and get an idea on prices. Don't order exhaust from the manufacturer's sites though... get them from a site like Ninosport or Partshopper.

I personally have Magnaflow exhaust and I love the sound and the 4" rolled tips. But that's my preference. You might lik JBA better. If you research exhaust on this site, you should be able to find pics and maybe even sound clips of both. Hope this helps, but there is not that much I can do. Good luck!

Thanks a lot Ian. I've never put exhaust on anything. I have looked at some mustang specific sets, but they were pretty expensive. Thanks for the advise to go through NINOSPORT. My shop said they make custom sets and they were highly recommended by a die hard mustang fanatic.
Thanks for the help man. I was wondering why noone responded.

Well, I can tell you tha exhaust is the easiest thing you will ever install on a car except maybe changing the air filter. It's extremely easy, especially if you get an axle-back kit. Which is really all you need with this car because the pipes are already 2.5" all the way back. If you want to save money, order an axle-back kit from partshopper or ninosport (both are sponsers of this forum and have deals for members of TMS) and then install it yourself. All you need is a socket wrench set and either jack stands or some rhino ramps to get the back of the car up in the air.

The Magnaflow axle-back kit comes with everything you need to attach it to the stock pipes. It's a smple bolt-on. Nothing to weld.

So you wouldn't go with a custom set up. I am getting mixed opinions.

Nick - let me chime in here.....I went with the Magnaflow axlebacks for several reasons: 1) since Ford already is using 2.5" mandrel bent stainless - no need to repurchase the cat back system, 2) Magnaflow is not a 2 chamber muffler like the Flowmaster - but a straight through design which flows freer - thus adding hp, 3) I have had good luck with several Magnaflow systems in the past and, 4) Either Ninosport or Parts Shopper will make you a great deal on them....just mention the forum and you should receive a decent discount.....plus the 4" tips PERFECTLY fit the rear valance cut out.....but just MHO

AND - (if you don't get the "early release" set-up) they bolt right up!!

my 2 cents worth. i installed simple 2 chamber flowmasters. dallas mustang personnel feel the JBA is the best sound. i just experimented with the flowmasters. may change later. it is strictly personal preference, but as stated above, there is no need for anything besides an axle-back system.

also take out the vapor filter just past the air box.

Do you mean the HC Trap.

I went to my exhaust shop and they said they couldn't make a custom kit because of the offset. He is ordering the 05 Kit at his discount for me. The cheapest I found the axle-back kit was for 399.99. Also, should I get an X-pipe or keep the H-pipe?

Thanks for the info Bradley. I am also looking at the 4 inch tips. He said I could pick whichever tips I want. Great service.

Performance Exhaust in Fremont, CA for anyone from the Bay Area.
