LT Headers Recommendation?

OK guys, I'm looking into a set of long tubes for my 05 GT. I already have a Bassani X Pipe and Magnaflow Axlebacks, so I'm looking into the set that would sound the best and make good power, while not TOO expensive. Anything that bolts directly to my catted Bassani is a bonus as well. Do all of the ones available make pretty similar power? Also should I go with a 1 5/8" or a 1 3/4" set? Thanks

im in the same boat as you.from what ive been told i may have to go with a shorter xpipe to get longtubes.either that or lose the cats.which i really dont want to do.im thinking of going with the hookers and making them work.the coated ones can be found cheap on ebay.

If you go LTs, you will have to lose the stock cats. If you're staying N/A, go with the 1-5/8". If you're adding a blower or turbo, go with 1-3/4".

You'll basically find three types of steel used: Mild Steel < 409 Stanless Steel < 304 Stainless Steel. Generally, the cheaper sets are mild steel; and the most expensive are the 304 SS. It's all depends on how long you want them to last, and how you want them to look.

I bought 304 1-3/4" LTs, and then had them Jet-Hot coated. Pricey, but very nice.

I'm looking at LTs too, and I'm waiting to see the Kooks brand. I've heard nothing but excellent things about Kooks. Brenspeed will be carrying them soon, so hopefully I'll get to check them out first hand.

Also, the new SLP units look cool IMO.

I have the SLP long tubes which comes stainless and coated out of the box w/stainless X pipe, no cats. They fit extremely well and were installed at home using jack stands. I used all the factory studs except 2 on the bottom row on the left side.

As for the 1 5/8 Vs 1 3/4 deal, a fuel injected engine has different induction/exhaust requirements than an engine using a carburetor.

I am also running the SLP LT's with their x pipe and love them. Like redbullet I also installed them using jack stands in my buddies garage. Fit and appearance are great and so is the sound.

I'm running the Dynatechs. They are awesome headers, but I can't recommend that anyone spend a penny for any Dynatech products.

If I were in the market for LTs right now, I would be looking very hard at Kooks or Stainless Works.

I know you know this but long tubes won't work with a turbo. Use stock manifolds or shorty's to mate up to Y pipe.

I have the Kooks LT's and high flow catted xpipe and love them. Have them ceramic or jethot coated if you are worried about them turning brown (not rusty just brown). I run MS 109 unleaded at the track therefore I'm not worried about the cats coming apart and I just passed emissions 2 weeks ago with flying colors. They sound really mean as well but not obnoxiously loud. Leaded race fuel will kill your cats after only 1 or 2 times running it. Don_W, Just curious... did you ever run leaded race fuel through your Dynatech cats??
Also with most all LT headers you'll have to get a mid pipe be it x or h designed for those particular LT's. Kev

Nope... I never had any race fuel in the car... just 91 octane pump gas.

I purchased mine from JDM for $1400. LT's and catted X-pipe. Kit is complete with gaskets all clamps and O2 extensions. We deleted the rears in the tune and plugged the holes in the cats. I don't know if Kooks makes an Hpipe or not as I've only seen the x myself.

Where did you get the SLP headers and x pipe? What did it set you back and did you have to mod your bama chip tune???

Thanks

I have JBA with the ti finish and they have held up great. I know Don had a bad experience with JBA at one time. Many have had good luck with them. I got mine used on e-bay for a good deal. Fit, finish, its all been good. I would buy motor mounts with what ever header you choose.

Some have had problems with too much motor movement and the headers hit. Some have the problem and some don't. For 120.00 bucks it is a good investment and easier while the exhaust is off. I have Prothanes and like them.
