Lower control arm install question.
Lower control arm install question.
So I will be installing some lower control arms this weekend and have a question. My question is where do I place the jack to get the rear of the car up in the air? And where should I place the 2 jack stands?
I jacked mine up under the pumpkin with a wood block (be sure to not lift on the diff cover) and then put jack stands under the axle tubes. You want the rear suspension held in place so it doesn't shift. Just be sure not to put the stands in the way of you doing the remove/install.
I agree. Also, you may need an extra set of hands to help you align the axle so that the hole line up without problem. For me, it was not as simple as raising the stang, un-bolting the stock LCA and re-bolting the new one. Maybe I did something wrong, but I sure could have used an extra set of hands.

How I did mine.. Steeda Billet LCA install
Just installed the UMI LCAs, Panhard Rod and LCA Relocators, pretty straight forward and easy to do by myself (Matter o' fact the total install turned out easier to do than just the LCA relocators on my GT last time).
The big difference this time I think was leaving the jack under the axle center secion and rotating the jack to help align the axle. The only muscling I really had to do was pull the axle inward about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch as I aligned the lower control arms to the attatching points on the axle.
The only PITA part of the job turned out to be greasing all the zerks since I had an el-cheapo grease gun with a metal tube connecting the cartirdge holder to the piece that attatches to the zerk. Easy fix though, pumped some grease into tube and used the poles for the gate on the fence as tubing bender, then articulated the suspension to get the right angle on the zerks.

two unsuccessful attempts due to part issues. Had to put the stockers back twice. Stands on frame nothing under axle. Used a ratchet strap to pull the axle forward the 1/8th inch it moved to the rear when I took the LCA out. I will be doing it yet again tomorrow. Should be good this time.
