woody24,

Check out my exhaust vid. The drone isn't bad.

I wasn't too sure what drone was. I had an idea. But had to look it up. But had a weird expirence last night with drone in the bathroom. I was doing some reading, and was humming. but I hit a note that felt weird. I found it again, and no matter how loud or quite I was by humming this note, it sounded like it was coming from all 4 walls. But if I went up or down one octave, it sounded like it was coming from my mouth.

So I assume thats what drone is. But I've never experienced anything like that before. My bathroom must be set up just perfectly. Because I can't do it right now in my office.

So if drone is so common, and happens with certain setups, why wouldn't they be able to find it a fix to prevent drone?

I intially went with Magnaflows (standard - not paks). They looked great and IMO had a little deeper sound than the stock A/B.s. I wanted something more aggressive, so ended up with the FRPP (Borla) Stingers. I really love em but the drone to some people is too much. A friend of mine has the Corsa system which has a design that cancels/reduces drone.

Drone is inherent with aftermarket exhaust systems that change the effective length of the pipes. The OEMs typically spend a lot of money on NVH reduction to get rid of drone.

All the axle backs drone, even the stock mufflers. If you drive your car at about 1800 rpm's in 5th gear you can hear it. The baffled mufflers do a good job of reducing the drone but the straight through design (Borla, Magnapack, etc.) make it much more pronounced.

Yes, I hear drone with my stock axle-backs but it isn't bad at all. Intense drone can permanently damage your hearing. The reason baffled mufflers help reduce drone is because of how much longer the effective length is compared to the straight-through mufflers.

Get the FRPP GTAs. They don't drone, sound great and they are pretty cheap. Ninosport has the best price.

Ok. So I've got Borla stingers, FRPP Stingers, FRPP GTA's, and Corla's to think about.

So my next question is, for those that have these, or maybe have experienced multiple ones, what kind of percentage would the sound be over stock? Like I'm thinking are Borla Stingers 30% louder?

Corsa don't have drone, none that I can here and I had Hookers which did have drone so I know what it's like, it's quite annoying.

Corsa inside are no louder then stock inside, outside they get pretty loud, at WOT I'd say they are 2/3 of what striaght pipes like SLPs would be.

GTAs are only slightly louder than stock at idle but scream at WOT. They are only loud when you want them to be.

As a matter of fact here is a video that shows the Shelby GT-H with Corsas vs the stock mufflers which I think on a GT-H should be the GTAs

Thumbs up

Starfire; the Corsa's throaty, droneless sound is the best...FRRP are OK, Bullitt's are nice.

That's a pretty good video! That's a pretty accurate representation of the sound of the GTAs!

I agree. If someone said an OR/H will do it with a tune or MIL Eliminators, then I would go that route.

If you just want it slightly louder I would suggest the frpp gta's. If your thinking about the stingers I would get the pypes mid muffler instead, they sound similar to the stingers but have a better sound with less drone. I recently realized how much I appreciate not have drone when switching from the stingers to the pypes mid muffler.

are mid-muffler systems easy to put on? I would like something that I could do myself without having to buy a lot of equipment.

Plus I'd like to get an axle-back just so that people know that its not stock from the slightly larger chrome tips. But I could try and trick them by making them thinks is all stock. hum.
