About how long should I expect a shop to take on installing JBA LT's and catted H-Pipe?

After I gave up trying to install mine, I took my car to Brad's Custom Auto in Seattle. They billed me 10 hours of install time. Hope that helps!

Took me and my wife 5 hours on the floor of our garage with basic automotive tools/jack stands/floor jack, we didn't even use any air tools. Do a search of JBA headers on this forum and you can read about our install. Since then I have removed them, put shorties/catted h-pipe on and removed the h-pipe and am now doing a turbo install.

I tried and failed to install the LT's myself. Combination of it was above my abilities (and I had a lift!) and I think they weren't flush. Good luck whichever way you go.

10hrs sounds a bit rediculous it took me about that much to install headers on my 2v 2001 gt and that required dropping the whole front suspension along with the k-member on the 2005-2006 you dont even have take off any suspension... yet alone the k-member id think that it would take 4hrs to install these i'll be doing the install this week so i'll let you know how long it takes me

I probably had a ligit 12 hours in mine. That included putting the starter and motor mount back in to soon and having to take them back out to get the header bolts in. We did it in my garage on jack stands and using standard tools. If I were doing it again I might pay 4- 5 hours but, 10 hours to a shop is ridiculous It really isn't that hard it is just a pain in the butt. Search on headers and check Clevelands write up helpful. I did the steering a little different than he did but both ways gave the desired results. If you try it get plenty of room, light and just go ahead and take the motor mounts loose and raise the motor. Loosen the bolts on the transmission brace so the motor will come up a little more. Then doing each side one at a time remove the motor mount change the header and replace the motor mount. You will have to take the starter out, it comes out very easy, with the headers in the way putting it back in is a little rougher. The sound and preformance is noticable IMO and made even more satisfing when I start it knowing I did it myself.

I would be more than happy to lend any advice or things to watch out for.

If I could do it again, it would be done in less than 5 hours...

It took me and a buddy a solid 8-9 hours. But, stripped exhaust studs, a beotch motor mount bracket , and assorted other gremlins caused serious delays. If had to do it again, I think I might pay someone. LOL

If anyone wants to drive out to me I'll be happy enough to do it and I have less "billable hours". I got all the right tools during the install so im ready to go.

Im serious though.

I did mine on the floor of my garage on jackstands by myself in 7 hours using hand tools.
I got lucky because I managed to get the right header in without jacking the motor.
I wasn't able to get the left header in without completely removing the steering shaft.
I lost 1/2 an hour there and another 1/2 removing the steering rack bolts which were loaded with loctite.
JBA claims 6 hours which I think is doable if you're organized and have a good game plan.

I agree anyone who knows going in what to expect should be able to do that. I forgot I also had to remove the left header after getting several bolts in. I dropped a bolt and of course it fell into the headers and slid down between all of the seperate pipes by the collector.

Exactly the issues I ran into. I stripped one of the exhaust studs (thankfully, Ford drills and taps much deeper than the factory studs go in. A longer stud was used and worked perfectly). I also couldn't get a good seal. Lots of issues and much cursing and swearing. I found the limit of my mechanical ability, apparently. I didn't think 10 hours was too high for them to figure out how far I'd gotten and then complete the job.

Rrobello, 3 other guys, and myslef did a shorty header and xpipe install in about 6 hours (one hour of which was lunch). We had trouble fitting the passanger side on the exhaust studs...so that took some time.

But if I had to do it again, It would take about 5 hours. that was with hand tools and the car on jack stands. A shop should take 4 hours.

BTW, the install was a PIA but fun. I'd do it again.
