Long tube header install, good price??

I got an estimate from ESP Performance shop in Pottstown to do my long tube header installation. He estimated it to cost $800 for the install. This sounds very high to me. How much should I be spending to have this installation done?

Give the guys at Tillman Speed a call. They have a new shop and will take good care of you. Do you have the headers yet? If not they can get you a good deal on some. I've been using them for almost 9mo. and they are some great guys.

Ken, I PM'ed you back. Jon's reply is exactly what mine would have been. I was charged only $400 as well. Give CR a call at Tillman. Tell him you heard my car. He'll remember.

ok, so it seems that the guy at ESP Performance is a bit high. lol

He deals with Buick Grand Nationals mostly. He also specializes in turbo systems. Tillman is probably my best bet. I prefer to go to a place that knows Mustangs well.

If you got a friend with a car lift you can do it yourself.

CJ pony parts is the way to go in PA.

I go all the time and I'm in Jersey, as a matter of fact I'm going out there Saturday to get some work done.

They even offer a discount on labor.

Got mine done for just over $500 seems reasonable. And I had the Prochambers, etc installed too. So I think that was part of the install cost.

Does it really take a shop with all the knowledge and proper tools 5 hours to swap out headers? I mean at 100 bucks an hour does it really take them 5 hours? I'd be looking for 400 or less, or i'd do it myself.

Well I would be happy if someone would only charge me 5 hours to do longtubes on these cars. Even up too $100 bucks/hour. I have done 2 sets with Larry (Airecare84) on his car first and my auto second. His set took us 6 hours working together to do (including lunch) and more like 8 hours on my auto trans cars. For the record neither of us are slackers when it comes to working on cars. I am a toolmaker with 32 years experience and he is a helicopter mechanic with 25 years under his belt. Between us we had every tool needed except a hydraulic lift. It is more involved than you might think. I wouldn't trust the work of the cheapest guy out there. I know there are alot of good mechanics amoung us. But this is not a piece a cake 10 minute job guys. At least to do it right. If you ask me....8 hrs @ $75/hr.= $600.00 if a very fair price. After you have done a couple sets you will appreciate the amount of work involved more!!!

Yea that's what I was wondering. I didn't think it would be that complicated. Thanks for the info!

I got LT's and X-pipe done for free. I just took down a really big tree in my neighbors yard for him. My suggestion would be to move next door to a Ford master tech that likes to drink beer and work on Mustangs(Not necessarily at the same time).

I'm with Scott on this one... The guy who did mine worked for Ford for over 20 years and it took him all day to get them in right. Not an easy install for this car.

HA thats basically me and a few friends. When I sold my headers to a friend I told him 800 bucks installed. Or I'd ship them for 800. He drove his *** the 2 hrs here and got it done in a matter of a couple 6 is hours.

If you lived close I'd do them for a case of beer and a night of babysitting!
