Hello everybody. Tonight i spoke with Lidio from Alternative Auto. We spoke for about 40 minutes about his car and what he can do with my Automatic....anyways,most of you know what good things he can do...but he said that he is working on a one piece driveshaft!!! He already has two out there that he has been testing. It will be a direct bolt-in,including flange to mate up to stock rearend yoke! He says it is working great,no problems so far...but testing continues. He will be offering them in the $700.00 Range. I forget if it was aluminum(i think it was),it was a long conversation. Anyways...good news is that there will be a cheaper alternative to the Carbon Fiber one that is available out there! Call him at 1-586-463-5435! Tell him Fidele sent you....no, no bonus for me...just told him i would pass along info! Will the mods ever end???

And what would be the advantage of a one piece drive shaft ?

Lighter weight and less parasitic drag, more power getting to the wheels.

I think there is a reason why Ford is using a 2 piece drive shaft. It might be so no thrust loads are transferred to the transmission. I my self would not go changing the original setup till I understand the engineering behind it. Can someone explain why Ford would use this more complex and expensive setup to begin with?

Uh the way I understand it the two peice drive shaft was to get power more efficiently to the ground.

How does a 2 piece shaft tramit power more efficiently than a one piece shaft?

Perhaps the reason they used a 2 peice was because it had to transmit power that was not in a straight line?

Correct me if I'm wrong but when the rear axle moves (like when going over a bump), so does the drive shaft?

They were installing one of them last time I was at the shop... It was big and shiny... LOL! It sure LOOKED at lot faster than the stock one... LOL! But seriously, it's aluminum... very nice...

The purpose of the two piece is only to reduce vibrations. It has 2 or 3 dampners and a CV joint. It weighs 48lbs. Theres no other reason for all the dampners. I've talked with quite a few people about the 2 piece and they all say to reduce vibrations!
The guy that makes Lidio's driveshafts is out of Michigan. I can't recall his name or the name of the company. I spoke with him for about an hour about the driveline of the 05.

David how much does that carbon fiber Drive Shaft weigh, and what is the diameter of both the stock and CF shafts? If you know

The CF is 17lbs with the yokes and is 3.25" in diameter. Not sure on the diameter of the stock one. I'd have to guess 3-3.50" in dia.

How much of a difference did the carbon fibre make in accel? On some of the calculators I have found using the flywheel parasitic loss calcs I only see a change of about 5rwhp. These could be way off though.

If this is true will replacing it induce vibrations? Some vibration is ok on a 1/4 mile only race car but would sux on the street.

CF will eat up more vibration than the stock driveshaft would. I can't speak for an aluminum one. I know a few people that have aluminum, but have directly questioned them on it. No one has mentioned it atleast.
I can feel a difference...my wife could not. Then again, the only thing she's noticed is when I changed the clutch-that's it.

How much weight did you save going with carbon fiber and is it a 2 or 1 piece DS?

The stock is 48-49lbs and the CF is 17lbs. It is 1 piece. Call Jason at BMR Fabrication...he can give you the specifics.

C.F. driveshaft is big money.... why not just buy a blower and a fake plastic hand to attach to your trunk that will wave bye to everyone else...?!?!?!

I personally feel it provides minimal gain for what it tampers with in terms of original engineering....

How much is a CF driveshaft? Do you even know? I do and others on here have an idea. Do you know what it costs compared to an aluminum one? Get back to me when you know, then you can speak on the matter. Do you know what the capabilities are of the stock 2 piece? Do you know when it will break? I do and if you want to know, just ask...I'll be more than happy to share with you.

....like a freight train

Think of the flood victims, man!

And if anyone has questions about the cf driveshaft...
