Let me get this straight
I was just reading some threads about the KN AirCharger and I read a bunch of people have it without tunes. And the people without tunes said that their CEL's have NOT gone off, and they have noticed a 12-14 hp increase and no problems.
Is this really true? Can I really get an AirCharger and not get a tune and reap almost full benefits of getting a tune?
Thanks alot for the responses. And where is the cheapest to get it? I'll definately look around, so this isn't my most important question.

I ran without a tune for a little bit. You'll gain part of the benefits of a tune, and you'll notice a difference, but adding a tune will give you better throttle responce and more power. Gas mileage gets a little better because it pulls in more air and thus runs a little leaner than stock.
Will any damage happen to my engine if I dont tune it? I don't know if I really want to spend the money for a tune yet. I might have other mods down the road and get a tune then, but you are saying that it will be faster w/out a tune?
And what is mileage difference without tune? Idk if you were talking with or without, i hope without

Hold up guys. I just found a Cold-Air Kit from MRT on their website for 349. A tad expensive but if I am interpreting this correctly
""""Kit is a true bolt-in installation for the 2005 Mustang GT and features a redesigned air intake tube for less turbulence and better flow, a new mass airflow sensor housing to maintain proper air/fuel ratio, a high flow K&N filter and a true cold air intake plenum with our signature carbon fiber pattern""""
it doesn't need a tune because maintains proper air/fuel ratio.
Anyone used this?
EDIT: Boomer, you're making me envious! Now I want the MRT! After having it for a while now, what do you think? Is it still running safely without the tune? And when I install, do you mind if I ask you some questions about where to put things?
Thanks a lot

There are a few intakes out now that don't need a tune. There's the K&N, Ford Racing and the MRT. I have the K&N and love it. Sounds good, works great and looks nice under the hood. No tune and you can tell a difference in performance. I picked up 1-2 mpg by putting it on. I don't have the H/C in and no problems. As for the other's I'm not real sure. The Ford Racing one is on the same plane as the K&N, as for the MRT I remember reading only one write up about it and that was pretty good. If you don't want to do a tune these are the ones to go with. If you want to tune go with the C&L. Most are bolt on and go. Lot's of choices out there, it's all up to you.
I have had my K&N system for mmmmm, 6 months now. I have noticed VERY minimal gas milage improvement, but noticed definite performance improvement.
I have not done ANYTHING to my car... before or after the kit was installed... well, excluding exterior mods. I think its important to note, I also still have my HC trap. One of my club members put the kit in, no HC Trap, with a tune, and has been having trouble ever since.
I am still on the fence about tuning. I have heard people having huge problems after the tune.
First I am getting my exhaust and suspension done, LOL!!!

Have had the K&N and have run it for 1000 miles with and 1000+miles without the HC. You do not need a tune either way. Have no idea regarding any HP gain but definitely more responsive IMO. Gas mileage - about the same, maybe a 1 mpg change.
Running the K&N w/ HC Trap; No CEL, no tune...
Don't want to tune 'til I decide on a supercharger...
I'm under the impression K&N works w/o CEL due to HC Trap being installed
Haven't dynoed my car... but happy with the SOMP feel concerning throttle response.
BTW... Whatever milage gains I would've received are squashed by my Pb foot.

For those with the K&N, mine was a test unit, and the official word on HP is the gain is a net 18. Not bad.
Also, of the people having issues (engine light, etc) all of them have removed the HC Trap. There are those who have removed it, and not have trouble. I also know that some of the tunes are producing some issues.

I also have the K&N and love it. The very first thing you will notice is the sound difference in your stang. It is true you dont need a tune with this BUT to really reap all that you can your gonna want a tune. I put the aircharger in first and went for a spin and really noticed a difference in throttle response. Got back home and then installed the Predator tune and man even a bigger difference.
