As far as the syn oil, I've noticed on various cars I've had in the past (always used syn oil) that some use a bit and some don't. My Taurus uses a bit but my wife's Subaru Outback stays full. Point is, the seperator really showed me what was going back into the intake, and now what isn't.

Still not as expensive as some, where you have to buy the separator, mount, hoses and fittings.

That really is a lot of oil from a NA car!

I don't accumulate anywhere near that much oil from my NA 05 GT. I think all S197 cars should do this.

That looks about normal to me.
I empty mine about every tank of gas and collect about a half ounce of blow by liquids.
But after first drive on a clean bowl its catching some right away.
Keep in mind, my engine sees redline at least once per day (after its completely warmed up). My NA 4.6 3V is a carbon free zone!

Here is a thought for you. Wondering is this blowby oil in the intake could explain the startup blue smoke that we all have experienced sometimes with our S-197 V-8 engines? I like this unit!! CalStang

I picked up the JLT last month, I was getting tired of having to empty my little home depot joint every week. the JLT should last between oil changes and looks slick

The black one looks nice and stealth

Both sides?

For this to be truly effective, don't you need to install filters on both sides of the engine?

The thought (from numerous other threads/forums) was the tube on the passenger side is so small (compared to the large PCV tube on the drivers side) that it acts more as an 'intake'. There is very little that would back up through there as compared to the path of least resistence being the larger PCV tube - which would have the separator.

Some guys have gone open breather filters and put them on both left and right cam covers. Personally I don't want to be stuck in traffic in hot weather smelling those fumes thru the window or thru the AC, so I stick with a separator - on the PCV tube.

I just changed out my deletes today and with only 21K miles and oil changes every 3K miles the inside of the deletes tel the story about all that CRUD everybody is dumping back into their motors. This is the stuff that screws up the plugs on these cars.

Catch cans / separators eliminate 99% of this mess.

Hmmm... I've read all over the place that a tune is required for CMCV deletes. Plus when you order a tune - they want to know if you have this mod.
Whether a tune is to adjust A/F ratio or just tweak the ECM to counter the of loss of low end torque caused by removing the butterflies/air tumblers, I am not sure.

But I'd be finding out...
I assume you're talking about the deletes - not a separator...
No a separator does not need a tune.

With the CMCV delete plates, yes, you need a tune. However, this thread (and I believe the question) was about the oil separators, and there is no tune needed with them.

Here's a couple of my install of the JLT unit, nice quality piece. I opted for just the can though as I needed to fab in the PVC valve due to my Centri unit.
Having ran the breathers I can tell you that you will get crappy residue under the hood and you will smell it. The seperator is the way to go IMO.
