JLT intake

a friend of mine has a JLT intake that another buddy of mine wants. he would like to know if it is 100% necessary to have it tuned if all he has is the JLT on his '07 GT. i am curious as well i suppose. i have read everywhere on sites that SELL them that you do but i was wondering if anyone had any first hand experience? thanks

You 100% NEED a tune or it won't run right at all

In order to get the most out of a CAI a tune would be helpful

Your car won't run right at all with a tune required CAI, you need a tune that's it!

Fair enough, I don't know too much about 07 CAI, didn't know if JLT required tune or not.

I ran my 11 GT with a Steeda CAI with no tune for a few days and it ran just fine, threw a lean code though

If it throws a code like that doesn't it, go into some kind of safe mode where it has an extra rich air/fuel ratio

It's very simple: an after-market intake pulls more air into the engine. If you have more air but are pulling the same amount of fuel in, you run lean. The tune will adjust the fuel intake to match the greater air intake, resulting in -- wait for it -- more horsepower! Oh my gosh! So yeah, a tune is needed.

Possibly, but I didn't notice any difference at all in drivability

Well he is technically right. The engine threw a code because it was running lean. Running lean can damage the pistons. Seizing up the engine would be considered not running right at all!

Well yes it will still run but if it's running and throwing codes and in a closed looped safety mode, I wouldn't consider that fine, I'd say it still "Runs" haha
