JLT II install woes, a little disappointed
So I got my JLT a few weeks ago and I got some issues. Let me go over the good and the bad.
I used to have the K&N intake. I wasn't happy with the performance gains it had so I switched to the JLT and got a DTP Racing tune in 93 and 87 octane for my Predator tuner. I sent a list of my engine mods to Brent (steeda pullies, water pump, 4.10s, JLT, TB spacer, Flowmasters) and for $100 he sent me the 2 tunes.
5.0 magazine got these numbers in a recent article with the JLT and DTP tune Peak Horsepower: 288.9 (27.9hp gain) Peak Torque: 303.5lb-ft (21.5-lb-ft gain)
So I put the JLT in

When you compare the size of it to the K&N you can see how much bigger the pipe and filter are, which gives it those big numbers.

Then I notice on the tube that there's a scratch or something on the tube, great. I don't know for sure if I got it like that. The kicker is it's right on the top where you can see it.

I drive around with it for a week and look what happens. The tube was rubbing against the power steering resevoir and started putting a hole in my tube. I'm glad I didn't waste any money on painting my tube to match my car. Between that and the ding on the top I'm real glad I didn't get it painted.
Notice how there's like dust from the tube where it's rubbing.

Think that's bad? It gets worse. The JLT intake unlike the K&N is completely unsupported, it just hangs there. Not only was it resting on the power steering resevoir, it was resting on
the brake lines

It looks like your TB spacer is pushing it into your P/S reservoir. I would sell that and get your tube smoothed and painted body color once you establish that it is no longer making contact. Then make some clever bracket design to support the filter end and sell the bracket plans back to JLT. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/04.gif[/img]

I've had mine on for several months now. Not even close to the cap, but it does touch the brake lines a little. It's definitely the throttle body spacer pushing it out. Also, hard to tell from the photos, but doesn't JLT's instructions say to put the long end of the elbow on the pipe? Your's may be reversed causing it to stick out even further.

I would have to agree that your TB probably has the tube pushed out against the reservoir and the heat shield should support the tube just fine. If you just bought the kit I'm sure that Jay would probably give you a deal on the shield. JMO~

Dustin I am sorry to see that dark cloud is still following you around. Every time I read about your endless problems I recall the Hee Haw song Gloom, Despair, Agony On Me If it weren't for bad luck you would have no luck at all. Wish I knew what to tell you to snap out of it but I do not have a clue.

You'll see the CEL come on. It will annoy you. You can then hook up the Xcal 2 and read the codes.

So let me understand this correct. Your using a throttle body spacer that pushes the throttle body forward and the rubbing on the P/S tank is the fault of the JLT??? [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif[/img]

Sir, I apologise for the rubbing issue caused by you installing a throttle body spacer.
When mating 2 aftermarket parts that make up the intake track, test fitting is needed and modifications may be needed.

Also I think he's concerned but probably realizes the TB spacer is at fault here.
Is it possible you could post better pictures of the new heat shield, as I'm concerned also with the filter just hanging there, and in Dustin's case rubbing on the old style heat shield.

It defenitely is the spacer, I installed my JLT I yesterday, and there's no issues anywhere, straight forward, then again, I don't have the TB Spacer.
Another thing is, why don't you give SCT X-2 a try? I had the Predator, and when I flash the car yesterday with the X-2, man, what a difference! with the predator was "turn key on, off, on, off, on, off, do a cartwheel, on, off", I was getting annoyed. With the X-2 was "turn key on... off, you are done".
And of course, if you get the SCT, you gotta go with Doug from bamachips.
