JDM is going to be selling GT500 TB's w/spacer

Hi everyone... I was on another forum (Modularfords) and looks like Jim @ JDM is taking pre-orders for the GT500 throttle bodys w/spacer.. I think is going to be $299.99. I was wondering if anyone who visits this site is planning on getting one. I wonder if this would be good for me since I plan on staying N/A. I have 4'10 gears, Hooker LT Headers, JLT (for now, may get C&L racer) CAI , FRPP delete plates (thanks CR)and w/have a set of stage 3 Comp cams installed. I bet for all the guys here w/blowers, turbos etc this may be a nice upgrade.

Throttle bodies and throttle body spacers are proven money wasters as they do nothing for performance on these engines.

I doubt you would see much of a difference in power, even on a FI engine, throttle bodies are rarely ever the bottle neck from what I have experienced.

This is one case where I would disagree with the assumption that the TB is useless. So far, all of the aftermarket versions have created reliability issues (due to the gears, electronics, whatever) and result in little to no power gains. However, the GT500 TB (which is actually the same as the Ford V10 TB) is a different animal altogether. With the factory gears and electronics it should perform much better. But, right now I think these will benefit high hp FI motors more than N/A, but we'll see. Either way, I don't intend to be a guinea pig. I'll let others take the lead on this one.

I actually saw one of these on a KB car a few months ago. It needed an adapter plate to fit, but it seemed to work quite well.

The reason for the spacer is to allow clearance for the larger butterflies to open without the need for porting the inlet the way Ryan did.
I would NEVER install an aftermarket TB for all the reasons Don mentioned above.
With this being a Ford product with motor and sensor already attached it does not pose any risk in trying.
In the event of a failure I will install the stock TB and be back where I started.

I doubt that there will be much benefit to the N/A crowd but I'm sure someone will try it.

Jim III at JDM said he's going to put it on his new N/A stroker motor, didn't he? That could turn out to be a very sweet N/A motor.

9E926 refers to the type of part, so its missing the first and last section (year and revision).

The Ford parts catalog shows the 00-06 F-series 6.8L V10 using the same TB, which retails for $388 and is available at most places for $210-$220, so it doesn't sound like the right one.

Did they change to a new TB design for the 07 6.8L V10 (drive by wire)?

It is the same TB as the 6.8L V10 Truck. They quoted me $212. +- and when I put it on my business account it went down to $156.00.

yeah but I beleive you w/need either the spacers or w/have to port the holes for the butterflies to work properly. Or at least that's what I have read.

why you couldn't buy one of those Helix power tower spacers (remove the helix junk) for the 6.8L V10, and bolt on the 6.8L V10 TB?

There are gains to be had with a larger TB when you're running more than just typical bolt ons...... running cams, blowers, etc. you will see gains. I'm glad someone's gonna start doing this, because like the other guys here have said I would buy a Ford GT500 'body but not an aftermarket due to the reliability issues noted.
