Installing delete plates, is the valve motor needed?

Is there really anything keeping me from just removing the motor for the factory butterfly valves? From what I understand, you disconnect the motor anyhow, does it really need to stay there? I am kind of flying blind putting these things in, as I got the ones from Ford.

I took mine off. I taped up the plug though just in case for "weather proofing" and then wire tied it to the intake manifold so it wouldn't flop around or make noise.

Does removing the motor do the same thing as replacing the plates? I assume that the butterflys are open. If true, what is the reason for replacing the plates?

I removed it
Tom, I did read through that thread, and it was helpful once I got down into the nitty gritty of the install. I appreciate the replies.

And on a different note, I went to upload my new tune from Doug onto my Xcal2, and noticed this one is in .ll3 format. The first tune he sent me about a year ago was in the .xtr format. Do I need to update my Xcal, or do I need the other format?? I already emailed Doug, but I need my car in the morning and I want to give myself the best chance possible of getting an answer tonight!

Can anybody tell me what these parts are doing? I don't understand why there should be more power by installing these parts.

With the stock cmrc plates, even when the butterflies are wide open, there is still a restriction there. The bar that the butterflies are riveted to is still an obstruction in the airway and it causes turbulence. Lack of cmrc's also allows for a more aggressive tune. These are one of the best mods you can do to these cars.

Yes on the action of removing the plates, but I wouldn't say it's one of the best mods you can do. You're only talking about 5-10rwhp gain. Do a CAI and throw some UDPs in there to free up some horsey's and now you're talking 25-35rwhp. But for $90...may as well do the plates too, right?

Yes sir, it did. I had checked out their website to see what I could find, and it was confusing. I've had my car 2 years now, and this whole tuning business is still pretty new to me, and I was afraid I would end up disabling my Xcal2 somehow
