installed new 3:73 gears! Do I need a new tune?

As the thread says I put 373 gears in my 05 auto. I have adjusted the tune with my SCT. Is it necessary to get an updated tune? Since I went From 331 to 373 will the shift points be off? The reason I don't like sending for a new tune is the last time I did I found that the new.American. muscle tunes are not.as aggressive as the original bamatunes. The original one Doug sent me was much better so would like to keep it. However if I am losing performance than I will send for one. Please any help would be great.

You shouldn't need a new tune, just change the settings in your XCal to update the speedometer.

I don't think anything would change. You would just need to adjust to fix your speedometer. How much is it off?

Thanks a lot guys. I don't think it's off since I adjusted it in the tune. My only problem is now that I've got the mod bug again. Mirrors new rear maybe an eleanor front bumper, halos, spoiler delete , tablet install and on and on. Any recommendations u guys might have for a front end would be great too.

You dont need a tune tune , but it would help. I also have an '06 GT auto with the original BAMA 91 Torq tune. When I switched over to 4.10's, I emailed Doug and he sent me a new tune for them because he said with the new gearing it throws off the shift points and they need to be recalibrated. I noticed a definite difference in how the car shifted and WHERE it shifted. If you dont want to switch tunes you will be ok and it wont hurt anything, but IMO you will be leaving some performance on the table.

I have a friend with 3.73s in an Auto, and no changes were made to the tune shift points He only corrected the gear ratio for the speedo calibration.

I would suspect you may eek a bit of performance out of it with a properly adjusted tune, but not sure it would be worth loosing your original Bama tunes over (I feel the same way you do). It's not that big a jump and the car may feel fine. I say drive it around for a while and if you like how/where it shifts then leave it alone, it's not going to hurt anything.

I myself went with 4.10s and a tune was def required in my case, but that's almost twice the jump as 3.73s.
