Installed a Coast driveshaft tonight
As some of you may or may not know I was going to sell my car a few months ago. I sold the Spydershaft to a member here and also sold afew other parts that I have replaced.
I always missed the 1 piece driveshaft and since I had a Spydershaft on it before (zero issues) I decided maybe I would give the Coast shaft a try. I found a used one for $375 shipped and the owner of a local hot rod shop and I installed the Coast tonight. Total time of install was 1 hour 5 minutes. We did it on a rack so we had the move the car back and forth a few times to rotate the rearend.
Took it out for a spin and I immediately remembered how fast the rpm's spool up with the aluminum driveshaft. Got it up to 100 and no vibrations at all.
The Spydershaft was great but not having remove the pinion flange and torguing that pinion nut to 150 ft lbs wasn't missed one bit.
Anyone who is on the fence about a 1 piece aluminum driveshaft can take it from me, it's a great mod!

I'm new to this topic in general. Is that the main benefit of an aluminum driveshaft, faster reaching higher RPMs? Well, that and the weight? Is there any other benefit that a stock or slightly modded GT would get out of it?

Good news is that Rich will take it off and sell it again in a couple of weeks and you can pick it up on the cheap. 
Then he'll buy another one a few weeks later... rinse, wash and repeat.

You won't have the clunking noise, less rotating mass, 20 lbs vs 40 lbs so it spins the rpm's much faster. I don't have a highly modified engine but there are claims that it can give you .2 better e.t. if you're a drag racer.

+1 for the Coast DS.
Rich, did you relocate the e-brake cable bracket and pound down the hump in the center tunnel?

I pounded down the tunnel hump and didn't see any reason to mess with the e-brake cable. I never had an issue with the 4 inch Spydershaft so I doubt that it was even necessary to mess with the tunnel hump.

Clunk really gone?
Rich: Does this 1-piece aluminum drive shaft install really eliminate that horrid clunk sound in the drive train when you shift from 1st to reverse and release the clutch, when the Stang is not hardly moving? That is one thing that I have really hated about our other wise great CalStang!!!

well I got my coast installed today by CR @ tillman speed and all i can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! the clunking has dissapeared!! the car revs up soooo much faster and the driveline is soo much smoother!! Coast D/S is def the one to get!! hands down. thanks once again to CR @ Tillman Speed!
