Installed 3.5" DS, first impressions...

First imprssion....WOW! I went with this one from Shaftmaster, a local company that did the shaft for my 4.0. Great service and the always stand behind the product.

I got to put about 20 miles on the car after I picked it up, lots of stop and go and even a few freeway miles. Car was much much smoother, less road noise and less vibrations and I felt alot of response difference. I loved the feel.
I got to talk to the install guys who told me the installation was very easy and fast. And dealing with shaftmasters was as always great. David over at shaftmasters told me that the shaft is a direct bolt on. There is no pinion flange or adapter plate.
I can't wait to get some nice weather miles on this car now. I also see a new tune in my future too.

All is going well, thanks.

Glad you're happy with the new DS. Leo's running the same 3.5 DS and is also happy with it.

Excellent!!! Thats the one I have been waiting for! The 3.5" unit with the direct bolt-in/no adapter install! Now just have to get the finance director to review same and sign off on the cost justification of the upgrade. Hah! That line was thrown in just for all of the married TMS membership!! CalStang

Bill,
Leo's shaft is similar to Ron's new one. The main difference is that Ron's is our new "Direct Bolt In" design. No adapter plate or new pinion flange necessary. BTW, long time no talk as well, glad to hear you are doing well.
Thanks, David

Where is shaftmasters located, and what's the price on this one?

I've been thinking about doing a DS this summer

There are some that do and others that don't. I chose the one I did from the feed back I seen and the fact that it didn't take removal of the carpeting.

This is really a 3 fold upgrade, it adds safety, reduces weight and changed the feel of the car shifting and noise wise.

Nope, BMRs or CHE doesn't (neither front nor back safety loops).

But I'm Talking about the loop? How does the DS Loop reduce weight or change the feel of the car shifting? I don't mean to be a jerk...

Those just bolt on - no carpet removal. Check out Bill's how-to. i think he did the BMR one.

I think he meant the DS. The DS is lighter, and changes the feel shifting since I think they eliminate that clunk you get with the factory 2-piece DS. The loop added the safety

Here is the one I went with; http://www.americanmuscle.com/compen...loop-0510.html

I looked I don't remember saying that the drive shaft loop reduces weight or changes the shifting, I looked and don't see where I said that if I did sorry. Not my meaning.
THE DRIVE SHAFT reduced weight and vibrations. Also knocked down noise.
Lots of happiness with the product.

Well got some drive time this weekend, hit 105 for a bit and it was smooth as silk. A bigtime worthwhile mod.

That's great to hear. I just bought this driveshaft after reading this thread. I hope to get a bit deeper in the 12's.
I'll post up what 1/4mile gain I get from it.

It sucks that most mods require additional parts which means more money! What is the safety loop for anyway?
