install saleen supercharger

how hard is it to install one of these by yourself?

anybody have any experience that has installed any sort of fi system on their own?

any special tools needed or what, the install prices here in houston seem expensive but since i never had a supercharger these might be normal prices.

**** ITS EXPENSIVE TO GET BLOWN!!!

I've done two KB installs. First one, buy myself, took 40 hours. Second one, had help from a buddy and only took 20. Kenne Bell's instructions are so good, a blind bat and a Monkey with a football could put it in. Huge manual with a pic for every step. Very easy and actually fun, though time consuming. You'll know your car so much better afterward.

I haven't seen the Saleen instructions, but it should be doable if you have 'basic' automotive skills. If you can change your own oil and spark plugs, and can install a car stereo or amp (fuel pump/maf wiring), you should be good to go.

My recommendation, read the manual cover to cover, make sure you have ALL the tools and supplies on hand (stuff like a special tool to gap spark plugs, dielectric grease for injectors, anti seize for spark plugs, silicone spray (helps hoses slide on MUCH easier)), and it should be a breeze. A helping hand goes a long way. One guy can read, hand tools, and sanity check while the other turns wrenches.

The instructions are available in a .pdf file on the Saleen website.

Give them a really good read, I would think the hardest part would be lifting the SC/intake in all by yourself, but don't see why it couldn't be done.

I did my saleen install in a weekend by myself. I did have to bug my neighbor to help me lift it into place. Other than that it is actually pretty easy. It is essentially Just a bunch of smaller tasks grouped together. I did exactly what Jay said, downloaded the install guide from Saleen's website and read it cover to cover about 5 times while I was waiting for the blower to show up at my door step. The only "exotic" tool I needed was a fuel line disconnect tool which you can find at any auto parts store for about $10. You should only need that if you are replacing the injectors. You will need an impact wrench to get the stock alternator pulley off.

Some install pictures

A couple of friends helped with my Saleen install, and it took about 2 days. We were surprised how easy it was.

It completely kicks a$$....... it makes more power than the Vortech/Paxton combo up to 6000rpm, and makes 100+ lb/ft of more torque than the Vortech/Paxton combo at 3000rpm.

The centri feels "faster" while the Saleen feels "stronger".
