Bottled octane booster doesn't usually raise the octane level but by a point or two at best. I seriously doubt you'd see a performance gain. What I did last year when I raced, was hit the track almost empty, and buy 4-5 gallons of 100 octane race gas. Between that and raising my timing I saw consistantly higher mph's.

I agree that "octane booster" is only good for a few tenths of a point. Not to mention, many of the guys I know who have used it ended up screwing up their plugs. You're much better off adding unleaded race gas (>100 octane).

I added NOS octane booster to 91 octane California swill and tried running the 93 octane Tunable Induction program. Suffice to say I'll never do THAT again.

If your tune is 87 does 93 do any good? NO

If your tune 93 will 104 do any good either? NO

Not necessarily true. Even though my car is "tuned" to run on 91 octane pump gas, I plan on adding a few gallons of 100 octane (or higher) race gas to the tank when I head to the track. Not to increase performance, but rather to decrease any chance of detonation.

But, I'm talking about race fuel, not octane-boost-in-a-can-from-Pep-Boys. Those so-called octane boosters are more harmful than helpful.

Right. But I think many people are somewhat ignorant of the fact that if you're not experiencing pre-ignition, just adding race fuel without doing something to take advantage of the higher octane, you will NOT see any more horse power.

Agree 100%. Running a higher octane without retuning for it becomes purely a safety factor issue.

But non-the-less it's a safety issue and will stop the knock sensors in the motor from retarding the spark advance if it's too hot out. So I suspect in hot weather it could still be considered a performance enhancer even without re-tuning.

TORCO Race Fuel Concentrate works. I have a pro-touring 69 Camaro with a 412 small block and 13-1 compression. When I dont have any 110, I use the cans of race fuel concentrate..the leaded one. runs great with no detonation. It's not really an additive. It's concentrated race fuel that mixes with your gas. I swear by it. You can buy it right on their website.

Sweet thanks! Pardo my misuse of the term additive, I meant to say concentrate.
