Hydrocarbon trap removal & M.A.F
removed the hydrocarbon trap from the air filter today seeing how it's completely useless, and noticed that the white coating was flaking off and went past the MAF. I pulled the MAF to find it jamed full of this coating. so I went to autozone a bought MAF cleaner, after a good cleaning with this stuff BIG difference in how the engine ran. and mpg went back up to normal. just a thought.

My '05 had the hydrocarbon trap in there, however my '06 was never equipped with it when the stock intake was in place. I removed the trap from my '05 when it was new, it never had any effects on how the car ran. I figured it would eventually get oily and cause trouble.

yes it 's on a 2005 GT and the trap is after the stock air filter just before the MAF. Disconnect the square air box lid and look down the air tube. if you see something that looks like white honeycomb use a pair of needle nose pliers to pull it out. what the hell was the Ford engineers thinking.

White honeycomb filter, round, the same diameter as the stock intake tube, about 2-3 inches tall in a metal collar. It's located just inside of the intake tube after the air filter.
