Hydraulic slave cylinder/TOB
Hydraulic slave cylinder/TOB
Anybody had their hydraulic slave cylinder/throw out bearing go out on them? If so how old was it? What did it sound like or do to the car?
All these looks and no info????
Well on my 01 Cougar I had the SS/TOB go out on me.. It had about 8k miles on it. I noticed the clutch pedal was feeling really floppy/loose and the pedal was sitting close to the floor. Engagement was VERY narrow and also very close to the floor. Bleeding the clutch did not help at all. There were no abnormal sounds. I ended up replacing the Slave Cylinder, Clutch, and flywheel (replaced all since I had to take the tranny off anyways).
Not sure how similar the Mustang's SS/TOB setup is, but the clutch pedal feels exactly the same as it did in my cougar...

Looks like I have to resurrect an old post because mine just popped right before I was getting ready to order a new one and do the labor myself. Left me stranded in need of a tow, now I gotta pay the shop for labor costs.
Mine started with a squeal on cold startup that would go away after warmup. I thought this was the separator plate between the trans/engine block issue that I read about on other boards. Guess I was probably wrong.
Eventually the cold start squeal progressed to a constant squeal that would stop when pressing the clutch pedal in about a 1/2 inch to load up the slave. That was first warning to replace it.
2 days later it popped, probably due to the constant heat from metal on metal contact (squeal) that ruined the seals on the slave itself.
Anyway its in the shop right now and will get fixed tomorrow. Moral of the story is, once you hear the squeal, replace your slave ASAP!!!
PS - 06 GT with 43k miles.
