I'd like to ask for a hurst shifter for my b/day but I am not sure which one to get. On one hand, I like the fact that the factory **** version (3910200) is very stealth and looks OEM, but on the other hand I like the retro looks of the chrome/white **** model (3910201). I am not sure about the white ball though - I might go with something else. How are the ball shaped ***** - do they feel better than stock? Thanks to Stoopy and Hatchman for these comparison pics:

I just found the sweetest pistol grip shift ****. How would this look on either version? Could you rig up the factory shift boot to make it look right on the OEM-looking shifter?

I had a hurst 'ball' in my 85 GT. I found the ball to be a bit slippery at times. Sweaty hands I guess. I'm going to get the factory **** model when I upgrade. Others seem to like the ball, but for me it wasn't comfortable. I have yet to put either model in my 06 GT, so who knows if the ball is good for this model. I wouldn't mind if it was a black textured ball or something.

I really like the white ball, I think it looks really old school.

I prefer the factory shift **** of the three. I think it's blends in well with the IUP and ICAP options, at least in my case. Looks like you have the parchment leather interior though, so you may want something else.

He has the Charcoal with Satin IUP, check his sig.

The Parchment pic is mine, it's the Hurst with the stock shifter ****, and you're right, it looks good with the IUP.

Here's a pic after the Redline shift boot showing the 1-2 shift. Since the stock shifter **** version uses a slightly shorter stick, and the same pivot point, this will give you the shortest shifting throw possible. The Chrome handles are a little longer, and so will be the shift.

Another vote for factory shift ****!

For those who have the Hurst, did you get some kind of cap that goes over the top of the shift boot? Like, an oval, metallic or plastic washer that slides over the stick and covers the rubber gasket that keeps the boot tight around the stick?

Yes you get a plastic piece that fits on the flat lever and holds the OEM boot in place. Personally I like the chrome handle with the black ball that doesn't say Hurst.

I like the Chrome handle, I have a White ball and a Black ball. I switch them out. I had the White ball on for the World of Wheels show and and it really got the attension. I have the Hurst emblem on the dash. I was asked several times if it was a factory option.

Right now, I am leaning towards the OEM style hurst shifter with the MGW Gripper, as I have decided the stock shift **** could have better feel.

I vote for the pistol grip. If I had a stick I'd get that.

Chrome Stick with white ball. The pistol grip belongs on a Mopar, not a Ford!!!

I vote for the chrome stick and white ball. The stock **** feels nice, but I'm not crazy about the looks of it. I had the aluminum '03-'04 Mach 1 ball in my '95 GT, and it felt a lot better, with no slipping issues like the other poster mentioned.

Another hurst shifter question. I have a tri-ax in my 1994 gt. After install, had quite a bit of trans / engine noise that was not there before. Replaced the factory noise boot and shift boot during install.

Do the Hurst shifters have the same problems, or can it be remedied by installing Dynamat during the shifter replacement? Thats what I ended up doing to the '94 to get rid of noise.

Also does the Hurst shifter with chrome stick come with a replacement boot? Or is it possible to position the factory boot so that the stick logo shows?

These maybe "stupid" questions, but they will save me time & frustrations.
Wished I had asked before doing Tri-ax install.

From what I have read, the hurst shifters have little or no more vibration than stock. Some people have used the stock bushings for less vibration. I'm sure Dynamat would help too. As for the boot and the chrome stick, it comes with a grommet that holds the boot to the bottom of the chrome stick. You can see it in the pic I posted at the top of the thread.

I just purchased a hurst shifter for my car, and it comes with a white ball.

Will any shift **** fit on the hurst handle? special size/thread?

Thanks Bryman for the input, I guess I should have paid attention to the photos.

Helps me narrow down the shifter selection.

Wish I had of asked before installing the Tri-ax in the '94

the Hurst shifter with the chrome plated stick and white ball does not have the same pattern as the stock ****. The Hurst thread is 3/8-16.

Hurst makes another model that is threaded for the factory ****.

Model No. 3910200 (uses factory ****)
Model No. 3910201 (comes with chrome handle and white **** - thread pattern 3/8-16)
