Ok....recently a buddy of mine installed the Hurst competition plus shifter. The first two days were fine then on the 3rd while getting on the highway I noticed that the shifter was making a small rattleing noise coming from where the handle mounts to the shifter. If I hold that area the noise would go away. That night I check the allen bolts and their tight as hell. The next day was fine but then later on it started happening again. Any suggestions on what else to check? He's planning on going through everything this weekend. I also noticed that when the shifter is in the neutral position that I can lift up on it, like there's a little play there. It can lift up slightly then goes back to stock resting position. I checked out a Shelby GT at a local dealer and the Hurst that was installed was not able to do anything like this so I know there's an issue, we just have to figure it out.

Mine doesn't move or rattle at all. Something must be loose. Maybe the rear mount bolts that mount it to the chassis.

Put some blue loctite on the bolts and that should solve your problem. Occasionally some people have had issues when the stick gets warm the bolts tend to loosen ever so slightly

We did loctite the bolts that attach the handle to the shifter but I don't remember if we did the other ones down below.

Make sure you tighten down the two bolts that hold the shifter down to the chassis securely.

I used an air ratchet (yes it does fit up there) and my shifter is solid. I'm guessing that you THOUGHT it was tight and it really wasn't.

+1 on the blue Loctite.

I put some dynomat down when we installed mine. I havent had any problems with rattles but Loctite is the way to go

I got rid of the allen screws and put in hex bolts as you can get them tighter and put loctite on them. But you say yours are still tight, so I am not sure what it could be. Maybe the ball mechanism where the shifter arm swivels in the base of the shifter body?
