How much rear gear oil for a 2005 GT??
This is a short question. I am getting ready to install Ford Racing 4:10 gears in my 2005 auto trans car. I have the Ford made gears, installation kit including bearings coming from American Muscle. I stopped by the local Ford dealer today to pick up Motorcraft Synthetic rear gear oil and a bottle of friction modifer. I told them I wanted 3 quarts of the rear lube and they said I only needed 2 because the differential holds 3.2 pints. When I search on the amount I get multiple answers from 3.4 to 4.5 pints. Did I screw up and not get enough? And I know a bunch will say I should have bought this brand or that brand and I don't care about that. I did my research and the Motorcraft full synthetic seems to be as good as any of them and it's what our cars come with. So please limit any answers to to amount of oil required. Thanks in advance.

I found my answer. I need another quart. It appears the parts guys at the dealership looked up a 7.5 inch rear end that holds 3.25 pints. Our 8.8 inch rear ends hold 4.25 pints.

Thanks Bill.
I will print some of these out and give them to my installer when I take the car. Not that I don't trust him because I do. He did a great job on my 96 Cobra when he did it. But it never hurts to have the specification at hand.
