Right after I bought my car, I saw the stock Pirelli's selling for $249. Crazy

Yep, The Tire Rack has them for $79 each.
Evidently the tread on our O.E. tires is only
found on Mustangs.

Yeah, that is strange since they are a pretty good tire (for an all season) and it is not an uncommon size. They fit new Crown Vics too, I'm trying to get my police chief to get them as replacements for the crappy Goodyear Eagles that come standard when they wear out (in about 12K miles).

That's not likely to happen since Goodyear Eagle RS-As are an approved tire for use on CVPIs and because your department can probably get RS-As for about $40-$50 each, brand new.

$40-50? I doubt it, we are not that big of a department and would not buy in bulk, so no discount. Even if there was a discount, the RS-A's list for around $150 each, so I don't think bulk purchase would get the price reduced by $100 a tire.

So I take it you've never checked on police pricing for the RS-As? They are dirt cheap for LE. They list for over $100 but PDs can buy them at very very low prices, even if you are a small department. That is why many departments continue to use RS-As even though they are horrible tires.
