Hey, where's the chrome fuel filler door? What a bunch of crap!

 

Hood pins are OK, but Ford really needs to fix this problem for him.

 

Back in the old days...
I was driving my buddy's 1973 V8 Nova down the highway and the hood latches both failed. The hood went up and I was able to see through the slit at the back of the hood enough to pull over and close it.
It was no worse than driving in bad weather and having the windshield freeze up except for that one little place you can still see through.

 

Yer lucky the hood didn't fold back and smash the windshield. I have a friend who had that happen to her.

 

Bingo. If your hood is flying loose, thats a very serious thing. As someone stated, you're very fortunate the hood didnt fly up on the highway and smash your windshield, or up in the air and hit a car behind you.

This was the reason I got hood pins the first time though, because I generally drive a lot of highway miles, and have a 60 mile drive to see my gf on the weekends where I average about 85mph. Though I would look into getting the latch looked at/replaced, getting another hood latch mechanism, or pins.

 

A visit to my local Ford dealership is in my future. I also want to visually inspect the first latch for obvious defects. I was unable to look at the latch Sunday as I had a 45 minute turn around before I had to head to the airport.

I won't be home for two more days but I wanted to get input from the TMS community.

 

That's not reasonable. What's more important looks or safety!

If this is a common problem then it may be necessary to add these. wonder if there's a TSB about this.

All I've noticed on my 08 is that the hood is kind of hard to close at times and sometimes I have to drop it twice to get it to catch.

 

Owie...I don't slam the hood on my baby. I put it down nice and easy, then give it a little push...nice click.

 

I slam mine as hard as I can, no issues to report, and I do a lot of fast highway driving.

According to two car mag articles I have read about the GT500 the main reason the hood vents are on the GT500 was to relieve pressure! So the story's go the GT500 test mules kept blowing hoods off at speeds of 145+ so the vents where installed and solved the problem!

 

That's good practice for the WRC...

 

Happened to me at memphis motorsports park. Like you said, didn't open all the way, but it was like the hood release was pulled.

 

That's the way the dealer told me to do it. I've dented hoods before trying to get them to latch. I'd rather beat the spring up a bit than dent the hood trying to force it down. If the body panels are lined up you won't get any chips or damage as it will rest on the rubber stops.

It never catches the first time unless you let it drop from about two feet open. That might change with age.

I had the same horrifying thought at first, though.

 

Same thing happened to mine while passing another vehicle on the highway, (never exceeded the posted speed limit). They replaced the hood latch while performing the fuel pump tsb.

 

what's the deal with the fuel pump TSB? Haven't heard any mention of this one...

 

I just do the 2' foot drop also. Just "let her go!", don't have to push down to click (or dent your hood), It's best way to make the latch engage.

Other than adjusting the bumper stops (it would shimmy at high speeds), I haven't had any hood problems.
