Highest HP without SC

Is anyone pushing 400+ hp around here on the base 4.6 without power adders like nitrous or superchargers? Raw American muscle. If you could post some specs (or if its in your sig... then... whatever)

Very hard and expensive to do, if at all. I'd be cheaper to go F/I. Here's an article that got this one to ~345rwhp.

IMHO, I think the engine Ford puts in the Mustang is maxed out at about 330-340 HP. This is only a 281, untill you get some more cubic inches under the hood you will be hard pressed to squeeze much more out of them with out the use of a S/C ,Nitrous, or even turbo charging. Look what Ford did in the old days, 289 then 302 then 327 to 351, why? more HP.

The highest I have heard of is that article with 345. For around the same amount of money, you could have 150 extra hp with a S/C, so I don't really see the point. Unless you just HAVE to have NA.

Hey Mike (and Glenn),
Blow-By-Racing built a car and it was featured in MM&FF with a set of aftermarket heads (theirs) and a Stage II camshaft (theirs). According to the magazine, the aggressive tune with racing gas gave them a dyno reading of 408 hP. They did mention that for the car to be driveable they "de-tuned" to 395. This 395 may equal the 345 whP people are referring to, but I agree with the no huffers and no whiners philosophy (unfortunately that doesn't make me the fastest)!

That's cool. Nothing wrong with doing your car the way you want. But as far as a sense of accomplishment, I got more than my share of that by installing the Kenne Bell myself.

But I'd say 99.99% of all NA S197's are going to get beat by 99.99% of all S/C S197's, so I'd say the money is better spent on a S/C.

Call me crazy, but I like being blown, so to speak.

using the calculators that measure hp from 1/4 mile speed (110.4 mph)and weight (3570# with me). i'm at 375 flywheel hp with just simple bolt on stuff. on the dyno though my converter ate up the hp slipping only 282rwhp showed. i do believe 400flywheel hp is obtainable and i'm sure trying for it. to run 11's i'll nee that extra 25-30hp.

Are you talking crank or wheel HP? You can "free up" enough horsepower to get the equivalent results of adding more power, up to the point of a power adder/forced induction.

I thought the 2006GT weighed about 3480lbs which would mean you weigh 90lbs? with 282 at the rear wheels you are looking at ~332 hp at the flywheel.

Maybe his is a low option car? 17" wheels, not side airbags and the base sound system?

That stuff adds up quickly...

Okay, just for sake of discussion. Lets introduce strokers and bigger blocks. Anyone hear about any crazy engines being slapped on a GT?

Now imagine this... add a supercharger to a 400 hp N/A car. Now you've got something.

To tell you the truth, as far as S/C goes, I have always admired Kenne Bell. If I have to go F/A I will wait until the turbo thing is all worked out. I have seen last gen Mustangs deliver 1200 hP and run 200 MPH top speeds. That's when the car is paid off and I have better life insurance.

As far as crazy motors in S197's I've seen a carbed 427, and a Aston Martin Vanquish motor, pretty sick if you ask me.

Yeah, either a windowed block, burnt pistons, or cracked rods. A motor would have to be run at a seam-stretching compression ratio to make 400 hp from 4.6 liters, any more air would grenade the thing.

Unless you were talking about blowing an LS2...
