Pinion angle is important, but I also question the quality of some of the cut down Ranger shafts. I've observed significant runout when running the car on jackstands:

Note - if you want to do this with you car -- BE VERY CAREFUL -- it is dangerous -- don't want to get caught up in a rotating shaft!!!

Based on my experience I would say Caveat Emptor to all who are considering "upgrading" to a one piece shaft.
The runout was horrible on that thing. Who made it?

The video is of a Spydershaft.

To be fair, I'm not certain that is the ONLY cause of my vibe problem -- however, it certainly needs to be resolved so I can eliminate the shaft as a contributing factor.

Need to clarify what I meant by "a number of aftermarket shafts." 5 from one manufacturer, and 1 from another. I only started doing the visual runout check on the last 2, so I have no idea if the previous 4 had runout (also, I only started systematically adjusting pinion angle one turn of the UCA at a time for the last 2).
