I am looking for a high output alternator for my 2005 Mustang GT. I have tried bosch but they don't have one yet. The stock unit in the mustang is a "Visteon 135amp max/82amp idle" The high output ones put out more like 200 amps at idle so thats better for my sound system plus computer that I have running in my mustang.

Let me know if you have found anything

thanks

No one has done anything as of yet. Check with Dominik Iraggi (Trafficjamz) over at the TermPro forums. He's your best bet at this time. MrAlternator and PA Performance shouldn't be too much longer as it's probably just a mounting bracket difference from any other Ford application.

Maybe you can cross match with one from a Ford police car. There are also guys that mod the stock ones for higher out put. I see them on E bay all the time. Try a search.

Pa Performance told me that some of the unique electronics to our car inside the alternator aren't available to the aftermarket yet. They will have a unit as soon as they can get their hands on them. They are aware of the high demand but their hands are tied. Nobody can get them.

Since I got an Optima yellow top battery, my battery is staying fully charged

Odd. The application list at www.knukonceptz.com (good stuff, BTW), lists our cars, well, it did before the sit was updated.

From what I understand our alternator is very specific to our car, this one works on "02-05". I think I'd wait for someone else to try it first

From what I understand, the alternator in our car has a clutch in it, that's not typical in alternators.

Hey now, keep in mind that I was fighting the dreaded P0340 code a while back, and the alternators seem to be a common cause of that code. So I have a reason to gripe about the alternator. BTW, I bought another one to go back into the car to replace my original stock one.

Would having a automotive electric shop hand wind the stock one be worth it? Get more wraps? Im sure it wouldnt get 200amps but would another 20 amps be unreallistic?
