Hidden / Alternate Fog Lights

Hey I actually did come here to ask this question and I see it is a good opportunity to help kick start the new forum.

I and I know a lot of you changed the stock grille for something else. In my case I went with the CDC slotted in black and I love it. I kept my stock fog lights themselves but the original grille is long gone along with the strapped on grille overlay I had on there.

I have since moved from Calgary where they have some of the worst light polution in the world and you can easily drive nearly everywhere on daytime running lights (or none for that matter) to Victoria where there are many many miles of road with no lighting at all (all those nice stars). We also get some wing dinger rain storms here so seeing road markings can be bad in some occasions. I have upgraded to silver stars which are a bit better but I'd like some better lighting.

What have you guys done or recommend to add some kind of fog light into the mix? I really wish that one company made those brackets for the behind the grille install like we saw a year and a bit ago at SEMA but nobody seems to be doing that (that I know of). I look at various PIAA's here and there but I have no idea what would look good or where I would even put them in.

Thoughts? Tips? Are HID's managable cost wise now?

You could talk to 06elnr. He's got the Satin Silver mustang with the Black Billet Grille and I believe GT fogs behind his grille.

Oh yeah loved the last winter despite the snow in December. Unfortunately I have to head over to Vancouver very regularly and they've been getting slapped around with snow quite a bit. There were a few trips that if I wasn't in my 4x4 Escape I would have just been sitting on the side of the road for a looong time. That and the Pat Bay Highway to the ferry gets really **** slick with that light frost and black ice.

I see that American Muscle has some dual beam HIDs on sale, might go that route. I don't know why I didn't notice these when I was looking this spring. Anyone here have these?

Hey Cowtown, didn't you get your bumper hit at a car show this year? What was the end result?

Yep, actually just got it fixed finally a week ago. had to fight with ICBC to fix it properly. Still haven't been paid for it by ICBC yet, go in on Monday to hopefully get that sorted.

Where did you take it and did they do a good job? I did not see that happen, but I know many did. That sucked. I don't know what the driver or the guy guiding him were thinking....

Yeah a lot of people not paying attention. Finally got it paid out today, 2 months to get it resolved though to be fair some of that wait was my work schedule and having a cold.

Anyways the guy that did it was Chris Rennisen at Titan Window Films. He did a good job overall and turned it around pretty quick. They're out on Keating Cross Road, total cost for the whole front end will be about $950-1000 taxes in give or take. When I bought the car the did the rockers and the lower part of the rear bumper which has helped keep chips and crud from chipping up the bottom of the car. I imaigne that would be another $300 uptick.

Tell him I sent you.

Ended up ordering the stangmods.com HID dual beam conversion kit with 6000k bulbs so it should rock some good enhancements. Being able to see road markers and the like is really what I need and these should do the trick and not annoy people if properly aimed. Only thing I have to sort out is the DRL as HIDs don't like running with DRL and they'll flicker and die quickly. I have found that you can use a capacitor to smooth out the voltage and it fixes the flicker issue.

when i started reading this thread i was going to reccomend getting the HID kit from Stang Mods. Then after reading it all saw that you went with them. Good choice. Not too expensive and easy to install. Also if for some reason one does not work they will ship you out a new one and just send the broken one back. They have great customer service. Hope you like the HIDs.

Yeah I probably would have gone with them sooner had I known of how well priced they were. I only have to sort out the DRL issue and I think I got that lined up.

I should say that Stang Mods has been great thus far through the ordering process. I asked if they could ship some other way than UPS because they slam you with brokerage and generally suck and they went and shipped it USPS which is great (and $12 cheaper).

i just put in the HID kit from VVME. as I understand it, its the exact same kit. Ive got DRLs (dont know how they activated them, the dealership did it a few days after i bought the car in 06, when i had to bring it back for a cracked windshield) I was afraid that the lights would flicker but they work fine. For what its worth, my headlights can only be turned off when I flip up my e-brake. Anyone happen to know why? Maybe, I should make another topic for this. . .

I assume you're in the states? Sounds like you're DRL is activated for sure. Good to hear it works. I was all ready to start soldering in capaciters and all that but after getting the kit and reading some threads and working out the connections and how it all actually works I think I'll be fine with this kit. Stangmods couldn't tell me one way or the other if it'll work properly or not but I tell you aside from that they've been excellent, got my HIDs in a week and no duty or the like.

I might have time to do them tomorrow if not it'll be another week.

Hey all, just a quick update on the HID kit. Stang Mods shipped it nice and quick and as mentioned even shipped it US Postal Service to Canada so I didn't get hosed on duty and the like.

Got them installed last week and they were stupid easy to install and they certainly light it up like nothing else. The best thing though? The kit is entirely plug and play and Daytime Running Lights work perfectly without any other modifications. No flickering when the DRL are on and the transition from low to high beam is pretty quick, I heard some kits can be slow to switch but these flip just fine.

The DRL run at the same light level as the regular head lights obviously but given how the HID kits use 20W less energy than the stock lights each and the bulbs are rated for some obscenely long length of time compared to stock bulbs I'm not worried about it.

Here is the kit I ordered http://www.stangmods.com/2005-Mustan...it-p/00909.htm I got the 6000K kit. I was going to go for the 4300K but figured the slight tinge of blue (really not that much blue in practice) and no real loss of light output was the best way to go.

Let me know if you have any questions! I'll try to post some pics when I get a chance this week though the ones on Stang Mods are pretty decent as is.
